Missing wrasse

I bought a yellow wrasse yesterday and when I put him in my tank he swam around got checked out by my other fish. Then I fed them and he ate right along with the rest. I had to go to class and when I returned home I couldn't find him anywhere and still no sign of him. Do they burrow in sand or hide in holes in the rocks?

Depending on the specific species of wrasse they can burrow in the sand, or hide in your rock work. It's very common for a newly introduced wrasse to go into hiding right after being introduced into a system. But he ate when you put him in the tank, you didn't mention any aggression from other fish, so he should be fine. Just don't go poking around for him trying to stir him up. He'll come out when he's ready

Does your tank have a mesh screen on top of it or some type of cover for the tank? Wrasses are well known for jumping out of tanks.

He probably dived in the sand, every Wrasse I've bought always jumps in the sand when there first introduced

Check your floor, if he's not there, he's prob in the sand. They can hide for weeks at a time before they feel comfortable. I wouldnt worry just yet.

No I Don't have a screen over-the-top But I checked all over the floor the overflows everywhere saw no signs

They almost always dive in the sand.

Also, they come from the other side of the world and are usually on a different time schedule. It takes a while for their internal clock to adjust to our time zone. They sleep under the sand, so when it feels like it is night time it will disappear, and reappear when it feels like dawn.

and plus 1 on the jumping. Get some screens.

You need to address this, ASAP.

It's probably in the sand right now, but it's simply a matter of time before it's on your floor instead.

My yellow coris sand always sleeps under the sand. Sometimes I go for as much as a week without seeing him. I forget I have him until he shows up again. :D

Yeah it's a yellow coris wrasse. My buddy got one at the same time and his also vanished. What about a 6 line wrasse. I had one of those for a few months but haven't seen him in a few days maybe a week?

Glad I came across this thread. My new wrasse dissapeared also and it is not on the ground anywhere. I hope to see him soon in a few days now that I can rest easier.

Thanks for sharing.
