Mistake during a water change, should I worry?

Asked my oldest to put salt in the container for the water change yesterday (55 gallon brute). After about an hour she hadnt done it so I went ahead and did it.

What I didnt know what about an hour after that she put a bag in like I asked her to, although I guess to her two hours after isnt a problem. Already had the pump going to mix it so I never looked at it

Today I removed the 50 gallons and pumped in the new water, except it is double strength on the salt

Tank went cloudy (obviously) and the corals are stressing and filming a bit.

Total volumn on system is 600 gallons or so, so I am hoping this isnt a castastrophy but never had this happen before.

I pumped out about 20 gallons and am letting the sump refill with fresh from the line.

Should I worry or just wait it out?

Thanks

I'd get it back to the correct salinity as quickly as you can.

I think it may be more of a stress type of thing than a deadly event but there are those things that can be very touchy and could die of the shock.

Actually the tank went from 1.023 to 1.026 so I dont think I need to correct from that ad I think its just a change shock thing

That's not that bad. I've made such types of mishaps and when farther than that. I've went from 1.021 to 1.027 during a water change. Everything was fine. I think you'll be ok.

stop everything

give me the tank before you break it

amateurs

PS: if it makes you feel any better I used to just dump all new tank mates into the tank without acclimation, so they usually went from the store's 1.021 to my 1.026 in about 1/3 of a second....never lost anything

what your first action should be would be to promptly return your level of sweat to 0% available, after that, resume listening to the above posters

clark, in your honor, I just performed a 20% water change and used water that was the same salinity, but the wild card was that the new water was 5 degrees cooler than the tank water

If it clouded a bit just check the ca/alk/mag after it clears and make sure you didn't precipitate any out but otherwise don't worry now.

He He He He, latazyo to thr recue! Man your right ontop of things there aren't ya??

I have had that help from the kids too once. But the bad part it was on my nano when I moved and last 95% of everything..

You should really let the water sit 24 hours prior to doing a water change, that will allow the salt to completely dissolve, I have learned to always test the water prior to starting the water change. It has saved me a couple times.

The only thing acclimate is fish and Inverts. Corals are just put straight into the tank, after letting the water temp in the bags adjust.

Usually dont need to test it as I have it down to one bag per conatiner up to the auto top off line of the conatiner. In the original post I did let it set 24 hours, that was the problem as I dont think two bags would have dissolved if I was adding right away.

I think I am slowly getting the cotton candy red algae under control, a week or so will really tell

Sorry missed the part about waiting. Yeah I have mine setup now were all I have to do is turn the water on till it stops with the ATO and then add salt. So I know what you mean there
