so i got this moray from a LFS and he swore it was a spotted moray but now that i get it home it looks nothing like any online pictures. actually to me looks a little more like a tesselata moray or a jeweled. can anyone help me figure out what i've got to determine if i can keep him or not. i have a 65 now but have a volitan so i know an upgrade will happen but don't want to upgrade for an eventual 6 foot moray, thanks

Its not a tesselta moray or a jeweled. A tess has more defined lines and more white than yellow, and a jeweled has small dots around it (that look like jewels).

by its body structure and color, I would agree with your LFS and say its a spotted moray.

Looks like a atlantic spotted or leopard moray, Gymnothorax moringa. Looks exactly like the ones that we see regularly, look at reef fish ID florida bahamas and caribbean by p humann.

Want get a laugh? Check out the picture on wikipedia, it's virtually identical to your picture, right down to the eels pose

i think the clams would be fine. he never showed any interest in anything but fish. after eating my wifes blennie tonight i had to take all but 1 rock out of the tank to get him transferred to his own private tank
