mitch's B/W & O/W breeding clownfish thread

So I've had this pair of ocellaris clownfish for almost three years. I added a BTA to their tank about four months ago and now they are spawning. I've read several of the threads in this forum and others on MOFIB which got me totally fired up. So I am going to try and raise the next hatch. I have had my Bangers breed before, but the male never carriered to term, so I have zero experience in raising any type of marine larva. I've got some rotifiers coming as well as some rotigrow. they will bw here Fri. Right now I'm on a tight budget, so nothing really fancy. first step is going to be to try and catch the larvae, then work my way through meta. Hopefully without crashing my rotifier culture. Anyway I plan on documenting the project from start to finish here, so I'll start with a picture of my female with a belly full of eggs and her ovipositor (?spelling) protruding. She should lay sometime this week which should give me time to prepare. If I don't get called in to work tommorow, I'm going to start the build on my set-up and will update with pics.

Good luck in the breeding world. The best advise I can give you is to take the rotifers & start 2 cultures in sterile buckets & try to set it up away from other fish tanks. They are hardy but easy to contaminate it.

Fazio92 hey when you're right you're right. Check out this video. I caught them in the act.

tonight eggs look good but my tomini tang put a 1/2" gash in my female and keeps trying to eat the eggs. He may have to go into a different tank. I really don't want to have to try and catch him though.

day three pics. as for otohime, I have some ordered, but right now i'm much more focused on getting them hatched and eating. I've got a good rotifer culture going.

Are you getting otohime from bio?I was there yesterday picking up some rots and spoke with you some.I'm tagging along for the ride.Good luck.

I got the rotifers and some roti-grow instant algae from our incredibly cool LFS. the owner ordered a batch and split it up among some of us local hobbyists. I didn't get the otto from bio, I ordered it from reed's. it should be here by Thurs. PM me if you want to get together on it. I ordered the starter pack which is 3oz each of the four smallest sizes. So I'll have plenty to share. I don't know when your tomatoes are going to hatch, but hopefully it will be here in time. Here's some pics of my rotifer culture and the damage my tomini did to me female.

Those little dots are the rotifers and they are in a 1.5ml dram vial. You can see them, but you have to look really close.

Looking good-other than the clown. She'll heal quickly.I might get with you about that stuff from reed. That is prob going to be the kit I'll get.Wishing you luck and keep us all posted.

Congrats! Just be ready for the hatch, its far easier taking the rock out and putting it in another tank with no pumps, predators, etc.. on the 7th night. If thats at all possible, if not search "fry collector" and try to make one otherwise, its almost impossible to catch them in the tank. Try putting a tile next to that rock after they hatch, hopefully they will lay on that and you can transfer it to a hatching tank easily. Also note to amount of time from being laid to hatching, etc... because you can pinpoint it to within the hour most times for future laying and hatching. (mark it on your calendar) :) good luck!

Good luck!

thanks for the encouragment. unfortuanatley I can't move the rock as it's in my display, but I've got some tiles in the sump getting ready for next attempt. arc I'll give it my best shot, but without the macro lens I can barely see them at all. Anyway I don't know if they will hatch tonight or not, and I apologize in advance for the # of photo, but I thought this was really cool.
