Mixing B-ionic Ca & Alk?

For My top off water can I mix the 2 part B-ionic Ca and Alk together in a bucket? Or do i need to dose it separately..

thanks

i would think you could do it that way,

though it might make the parameters in the water of your main tank un-stabble or higher, i wouldn't know how to go about balancing it out when you top off.

No, it must be dosed separately in to the tank or sump.

when u dose with pump you drip both of them at the same time in 2 the tank. Wouldn't that be the same as mixing it together in your top off water.

No, they cannot be combined in any fashion, including in top off water, before being added to the aquarium. They will precipitate if added to almost any volume of fresh water, but not to a large volume of salt water.

A small amount, such that you boost the alkalinity in it by no more than 0.5 meq/L or so is OK, but that doesn't allow it to be used as much of an ongoing supplement. Basically, the same amount that you be limited to adding to a tank all at once.

You're welcome.

Happy Reefing. :)

Randy can I dose Ca first in to my tank and 3 hours later add the alk part. Or do i need to dose at the same time in my tank to keep it balance? I ask because I add alk in to my top off water in to my tank slowly and Ca I just dose in to my tank all at once.

One more question.. Is it ok when your Ca - Alk goes up and down but still in range. I try to keep my Ca btween 420ppm and 400ppm and my ALK between 150ppm and 100ppm. Is this ok or does my Ca and alk have to be at certain amount every time to be balance. Can it flutuate or does it have to be the same all the time to be balance..

I wouldn't let the alkalinity drop below about 125 ppm, but that range should be fine, otherwise. One of my tanks fluctuates more due to high calcium carbonate demand.

So does 2 part dosing always have to dose together? Sometimes my alk is low and i just dose alk only is this ok or do i have to add ca too..

Just dosing one or the other is fine if the tests indicate the need. That's very normal; I do that myself from time to time. Most tanks consume a bit more alkalinity than calcium, in terms of the usual ratio provided by the 2-parts.
