Mixing Clowns in a Large Tank

I have only kept one pair at a time in my 150 but I am beginning to look at a larger system, probably a 6-7 foot 300+ gallon display. Right now, I have a pair of onyx Perc's with a green Gig. What do you think about placing the Percs and Gig on one side of the larger tank and a new Mag high up on the opposite side? Maybe then add a second pair of clowns for the Mag? I have seen multiple percs and ocellaris in large tanks, but what about adding a pair from one of the skunk or clarkii complex? I understand they can be a more aggressive anemonefish.

I appreciate hearing your thoughts and experiences.

Thanks,
Mark

Funny you should ask this. Was just having a chat with a buddy of mine on the exact same thing. I have kept multiple clowns together in an anemone-less big tank a couple of times , but as soon as I added the anemone all hell broke loose. It's only a couple of data points, and others may demur, but I'd not try it again. Plus I don't like clowns enough to use up my available fish capacity with more than a single pair.

This. Depending on species it may work but with some species it will not work.

Thanks Guys.

I appreciate the video SomeDude! I see orange and pink skunks, perculas and maybe snowflake ocellaris. I assume this is your 6 foot 215? I may have to give this try with the new tank.

Thanks,
Mark

No problem. Actually, it's the 6ft, 125. =)

I have a pair of saddle backs and a pair of percula. I introduced my saddlebacks and a carpet to my perculas. I removed the percula's and changed a few rocks around...then added all 4 clowns together with the new haddon carpet. They all get along just fine!

I wish I had a nickel for everytime this question has been asked on here...

As Adrienne said--how long have all these clowns been in same tank? For every one instance where multiple pairs work longterm (2 yrs or more), there are at least 15-20 posts of the bloodbath & ending up w/ only one pair when they start to spawn.

There are lots of things you can do that you probably shouldn't - and always somebody claiming to be doing it! I'll rely on my own experience and the advice of those who appear to have some sense about them.
