Mixing Montipora

I have heard from a LFS that you can set frags of different species of montipora on each other and they will either grow and spiral around eachother or they will fuse and make a mixed hybrid kind of monti with both colors. Either of these outcomes would be awesome. :eek2:

So my question is, has anyone actually done this? If so please post some pics!

yup it can be done, usually one color over takes the others, in my experience orange grows faster, but every tank is different so your experience may vary.

I placed a green hi lighter cap, orange cap and a green cap side by side. the green cap grew twice as fast as the 2 and tried to block them from getting light. the hi lighter ended up being shaded by the two..

Im going do just the outer rim of the disk and the a solid color in the center. probably alternating green, red and purple rim with idaho grape for the center.

I've tried tyree flower petal and strawberry field monti on a plug before. Had them under t5's and the flower petal dominated and killed the strawberry. Now that I am using halides I will try it again and see what happens.
