Mixing Species

"No" isn't the answer I want, but I believe it is the correct answer.

In a small (nano) tank is it possible/feasible/humane(ish) to keep a maroon clown and a false perc?

I can't seem to find much on mixing species, yet I gather it isn't recommended and may end badly. Especially with a more aggressive maroon (?).

My perc is quite young, about 3/4" big while the maroon looking to be moved in is closer to 1.5".

Appreciate the input

both are still quite small, so it could work out, but be prepared to yank one in case it doesn't. These species are known to hybridize in captivity(hybrid=cocoa, or something like that). How nano is your tank? 6 gallons is out of the question. 12 might work for a little while. 24 should be possible with a bit of luck IMO.

I certainly would never want a maroon in a tank that size. She will tear you up every time your hand gets near the water, never mind the other clown. They sure are cute as little ones, but look at a picture and the temperment of the adult and know what you are getting yourself into a few months down the line.

Agreed. Plus, at a bit over 6.5'', that is just plain too big for a tank that size (considering that it is a fairly active fish), IMHO.

In a nano NO WAY NO HOW. Certainly not enough room to allow for the order of domanice to be established before one of them is killed.

In a nano...no way. I have 4 different species of clowns in my 125 and no problems. I have a pair of pink skunk, clarkii, breeding occ. clowns, and black saddle backs. They all have their "own" host and territory. I have a pair of Maroons in my 92, and the maroons will not tolerate new corals being put into their territory. The female is 5"+ and will flip medium sized LR. She has become accustomed to my hand, but will attack tongs, veggie clips...pretty much anything that is unfamiliar.
Maroons just get too big for any nano. I would go almost so far as to say no maroons in anything smaller than a 55
