MJ mods-Is anyones actually working?

I have had to glue every part four times. I used a two part epoxy last night and upon plugging the three I have in this morning, two of the three won't spin... I don't know what else to do. I have been able to get one or two to work for as many as three days without issues, but then something breaks free and it quits working. Mine are all the 1200's. Just wondering if anyone else is having issues. If all the parts hold togetherm they seem to work fine, but even with liberal amounts of two part epoxy at all joints (magnet to flex tube, flex tube to rigid, rigid to propellor), I'm still getting flex at the flex tube and they won't run. It's raining at my house and has been for the last two or more weeks. Maybe Murphy's found his way back. Sure as hell seems like it... If there wasn't a for better or for worse clause in my tank vows, I might be looking for a younger, more supple hobby;).

Well, make that 0 for 3 now. The third one made it about 10 minutes before it quit working. I used a thinner walled flex tubing than what we had at the meeting. With all of the gluing and whatnot, maybe I've weakened it?

I have only had time to put one of mine in the tank. I used the old seio bracket I had and glued it to it. I tested it on the wavemaker and it came loose at the prop. I reglued it and took it off the wavemaker and it has been running fine ever since. One thing I think may be causing gluing issues is the may be the material that the prop is made out of. Some types of plastic are pretty hard to glue.

Do you have any pics of these mods? I might be able to to tell you what you can do to improve them.

The only place I use glue on is where the propeller connects to the rigid tube.

What propeller did you use?

D.

I'm having the same issue with my 1200!!! It was working fine one day, then the next day the fan thing would hit the side and make weird noise that my parrot hates....

Mine still doesn't work after trying everything I know to do. I'm sure it isnt coming apart at the airline tubing or the impeller. Mine is just kicking out and hitting the stop on the impeller housing.

hi there gflat65, just my 0.2 ya... perhaps the problem might be your use of two part epoxy instead of a cyanoacrylate ethyl superglue gel? cause the epoxys dont really adhere to plastics i feel, but actually form a cast around shapes there by holding them in place, so in the moxi mod, it might not keep the moving parts together for long. perhaps try a different adhesive?

cheers,
ian

Do this.

Shorten your rigid tubing a tad.

I'll get some pics posted tomorrow.

I've tried everything from regular super glue, to super glue gel to two part epoxy... I had a few that made it three or four days before something caused issues. I was thinking maybe more intake area, maybe?

I have no problems with my double prop 900 mod. Its been running solid since the pre-fab day one week before the meeting. The only thing I've had to modify was the rod length by about 1/16".

Happy (or sorry...which ever is applicable) to say both my double prop 900's have run great since the meeting.
Only problem I had was using the suction cup mount on my overflow, it fell off, pointed down and caused one he** of a sand storm! Guess that why everyone has found an option to the suction cups....duh.

I spoke too soon. I came home today and heard a vibration from somewhere. I looked in at the modded mj and noticed the carbon fiber rod was spinning a little. No big deal I thought... I'll just glue it with some silicone :P Well... I took it apart and verified that the magnet spinning on the rod pushed itself back into the plastic/rubber piece that the rod goes into by wearing a ring into the plastic. I tried to pull the rod out and it is seared into the rubber piece (almost melted like). Tomorrow I'm going to go to Lowe's and see if I can find a small enough SS washer to go between this piece and the magnet. As you push and turn.. there is definitely increased drag/friction since this has worn in.

I think if everyone took thiers apart after running a week or two, you'll notice the same indention and wearing where its been pushing toward the pump.

I also just noticed that the center brace hole has wore itself oblong. :(

Well I shortened the rigid tubing on mine about 1/8" and it still hit the outer impeller housing, so I shortened it about another 1/8". The impeller now sets about 9/16" away from the outer impeller housing and still hits. For some reason the magnet is backing out of the motor. Am I missing something here? Is there suppose to be something to hold the magnet into the motor?

It is a brand new pump. I bought it particulary for this mod and ended up lossing the original shaft at the mod workshop. So I really need to get this thing working or I will need to order a whole new impeller setup. The rod appears to seat in the in the MJ body. The problem is the magnet which slides on the rod is kicking out of the MJ body. I will see if I can get some pics in the next day or so, but I dont know how much it will help. The mod looks fine. I can spin the impeller with my hand and everything seems to function perfectly. When I turn the pump on its a different story.

I'm having the same exact problem. The impeller seem to want to come out a bit more making the spinner hit the tip causing a racking noise. I placed a small piece of tubing infront of it so it won't hit the tip, but the impeller still comes out. It suck in from the front and push out from the sides. What would cause the impeller to spin out???

Mine all seem to spin correctly out of water. I keep coming back to maybe needing to open the intake up a little. I should be able to get some pics tonight (I know I've been saying that for a while now...).
