Mkart starting something new

I am definitely getting too old to move systems out of basements. Got everything going except the reactors and skimmer. Skimmer overflows and I need to fiddle with it in the morning . Been a long weekend! Tons of hammer Frags as the large colonies broke apart and the 3 fish seem to be doing well. No crabs and only one snail surprised me.

I guess I'm back in!

Everything seems to have survived! The previous owner only had about 80lbs of rock in the system so I need to add more. Gave me another 80lbs or so dry to use so I'll add that over time. I had to rebuild the stand supports to fit the sump I bought from Tanksdad13 but got it done. Still letting skimmer break in after cleaning but I'll get it tuned over the week. Definitely not keeping the tank as it is just not the right size for bar. One of the mp40s needs a new wet side but I knew that when I bought it.

Thinking about doing mostly soft corals to make upkeep a little easier. We will see if that lasts but I like the idea of it.

Well everything survived my first trip out of town. Only 4 days but a win. Have a 5 day trip coming up so I need it to survive on its own. Received an Apex auto feeder today so I don't have to rely on help to feed.

I am having some issues with growing Chaeto macro algae in the sump. I bought some a week ago and added a 5k led light from Lowe's. Just about melted away now. Nitrates and phosphates were high when I put it in. Maybe too early for it but the system was up and running for 10 years before I relocated. I'll recheck the chemistry tonight.

My old system grew it like crazy, two basketballs worth lived in the 180 sump. Still getting use to so little room with this 60 gallon sump. If I could find a larger one for the new build I would probably swap it out. Moved the skimmer into the return chamber today and live rock/chaeto into the middle section. I did this since I pulled the socks offline today and the remaining chaeto was stirred up and into the middle section with the skimmer immediately plugging its pump. This alignment should prevent that. Maybe that's the way it should be.

I am leaning back towards a 90 gallon display since it will leave me room in the bar. If a 6ft 135 comes available before I buy a 90 I might talk myself into that. Going to go with 18" depth though.

I'm guessing you just needed more light on the cheato.

Yeah.... I think I must have bought a more specialized bulb last time. I did watch the BRS video and the $300 Kessil looks great. It is $300 though.

I use a Mars growing 300w light

Had a bloom of diatoms and cyano algae this last few weeks. Siphoned off some during a small water change yesterday. Been looking at the algae reactors, arid24, versus spending the money on a specialized fudge light to help with nutrient control and chaeto growth. So far parameters look good but Alk has been low at 7 since I set up. Need to boost that.

Well....right before I went to the Cayman Islands for a few days the fish showed signs of Ich. I picked up something to put in their food and fed them as much of it as I could. Unfortunately only the clown survived. I'm going to setup another tank to treat him and leave the tank fish less for 2 months. Was already working on a tank transfer qt setup so I guess I'll add a treatment system and a coral observation tank as well.

This keeps getting bigger and I haven't started on my bar build yet! Found a bio cube 16 that I may pick up for the treatment tank. No actual fish room like before so I want to keep size down.

Tank has been void of fish for 2 weeks and it is boring! Cyano has been getting worse so I tried Chemiclean that came with the 28 Nano I bought. Tank is a bit cloudy after 2 days and when I went to set my skimmer up to drain the overflow into a bucket I broke the fitting off the collection cup. Easy fix when I have the time and pieces. For now I just glued a 1/4" line into the hole with superglue. Swapped my top off with salt water and am going to skim a water change. Still have some signs of cyano but I am going to add fresh gfo and carbon. I only feed the coral for now so it should be fine. I ran air stones but should have run my skimmer with no cup during the process for aeration. I'm probably lucky this bloom did not choke out the coral or shrimp.

I also set up the 28 nano as an observation and it is cycling now. Need a skimmer still but have a month or so to worry about that. I am going to try to do the tank transfer QT so I'm working on that now. I want to buy fish in 2-3 weeks and start the process. Not sure when I should start turning the lights on. So far just heating and cycling the water through the rocks. Thought I might pick up Bio-Spira today to help with cycle.

No fish room is a bear. I may have to change that once the bar is done.

Glad to see your back and what's this bar you speak of

I'm currently in the process of moving oceanviews old 280. I just got all of my vitals and rocks moved this weekend

That's awesome man! Loved Hershel's tank. What part of town are you in these days?
