Mkart starting something new

Since I'm thinking about building a sump I thought I would make a few simple projects first to get the feel for it. I needed a sock holder for the current sump so I made an adjustable one to try and mimic the newer style where the water flows into a small compartment then into the socks and then the sump. We will see if it works this weekend. May just use a split piece of silicone tubing as the seal around the edges for now. Used scrap acrylic I had in storage for several years. Next up is a couple of reactors.

Tank transfer method not going so good! Bought 3 fish and after 3 transfers only have a bicolor angel left. I may just try a method I found on advanced aquarist instead. It keeps them in one tank with biological filtration and doses 3 medications over 21 days. I'm hoping to have several fish ready for when the display has been empty for long enough.

Too late to change my mind now! Back bar has been ripped out.

Looks awesome! Where do you get your acrylic from?

A few years back I stopped into a fabricators shop with cash and asked to buy scraps. They had a bunch that the paper would not easily come off of and sold it to me cheap.

I am going to pick up a sheet of 3/8" from Regal plastic next week.

Slowly getting things together. Installed a vent fan to remove humidity and maybe some tank smell. Installed an outside conduit for the skimmer air line to hopefully drive up my ph a bit. Stand still needs bracing but I used lvl beams up top so I could leave a 50" span open in the center. I added a vent pipe from the sump to above the tank in hope of drawing air out when the vent fan runs above, it vents to outside. Not sure that is going to work as well as I'm thinking. Still need to pick up acrylic for a sump build, decided to use 3/8" regardless of the calculators for my comfort. I have some 1/2" for the baffles. Wanted to use white and clear but cost wise it makes more sense to just buy 1 sheet of clear and use it for the whole thing. I bought a 150g long which is in the garage waiting to be installed.

Well the good news is the 120 is going well fish less and the 29 seems to be going well with 2 clowns, a yellow tang and a flame angel. The yellow tang looked to have black spot ich and prazipro seems to have cleared it up. Second dose tomorrow. I planned on cupermine next but am a bit worried about the flame since my research indicates they don't do well in copper.

Slowly getting things back together. Dreaded drilling the marble for plumbing but turns out it was a piece of cake. Need to place the tank then I'll build the cabinets to slide in around it.

Little progress this weekend. Started on my algae scrubber which is a fun easy project. I am just building one like the CW units which appear to have a nice design. Got everything cut and ready to glue. The lights should be here in a few weeks.

Started plumbing the tank and just closed the valves off. Still need to build a sump which I am slow at getting to since the potential loss if I screw it up is fairly high.

Also added a bit of saltwater and some rock to get some kind of a cycle going.

Assembled my algae scrubber this weekend. Ending up dumping the red pipe for black. Have the 2 lights for it but waiting on black nylon thumb screws.
