glassbox- that alcove frames off your tank perfectly. I love it! Did you design the alcove for the tank? Or was it already part of the house?

Joe, I absolutely love the way your new tank looks in your livingroom
yes, you can paint stand and doors with automotive paint. Here are my doors painted in Ferrari red :bum:

Nice! How did you apply the paint? What was the process? It looks great.

This is what this thread was intended to produce. Great thinking! i love it

The doors come painted from Elos Italy. Jesse says that they are sent out to ferrari to be painted using the same process used for their cars  :smokin: ... the doors are very gloss, almost glass like in finish.
I have three matching elos planet fixtures on order as well.
I'm addicted :D

This is a great thread!

One frequent element in these modern designs is non-traditional lighting. To elaborate, lighting systems that are either suspended from the ceiling, attached to the back of the tank, or mounted via legs.

I'd like to try something of this nature, as it would surely simplify heat management! Unfortunately, the spouse isn't much into modern design, and she freaks out whenever I mention suspending lights from the ceiling for my 6' tank.

Auto- Paint

Auto- Paint

Hi

I like the idea of using auto paint. How many coats are needed to paint a door and do you need an special spray paint gun? If you are using it on wood, do you need any protective coats of lacquer or anything?

I reckon this will look great on the tank design I am putting together.
