I dont think it should rust. You have the advantage there to have the broad stand to prop the light on. I think it looks very good. I wish i could find the same thing but with a longer stem so it can stand on the floor.

Aww... Justin, you didn't like my picture I made you? It took forever. Love your setup and ideas. :)

Oh no dude! I thought I had responded...I love it!!! It really made me realize that I did not have enough Cardinals! LOL.

I looked into those too Marc,...but theyre usually pretty short.

The other thing i looked at that might work for some of you guys that i thought were pretty cool :

This one looks made for holding a mh reflector,..again too short for me.

The other really nice/functional idea (i think)

I just wish they all were a little taller/longer

Where are these from? This is more what I was looking for...then I could just use the Arco for a reading light above our sofa.

That has to be one of the best aquascapes I have ever seen.

How did you create that overhang?

Stunning!

mac inger.. i was thinking about the architect lamp or table lamp with MH for my new concept tank.

do you think some parts of the lamp will rust overtime?

that looks pretty sweet marlon. I like it much. What program are you using?

I have two Bogen photographic background holder spring poles with brackets and weights. I think they would make a great light holder with the right cross brace - very modern looking for the right spot.

good ol sketch up then rendered it with SU poduim...all free!

Here is my 2nd option for the light stands...this will hide all the wires coming from the lights. i will be using wood for the light assembly.

can't wait to start my project....next month maybe...still i am not satisfied with my design.

need more ideas from this thread:p

marlon, i like your 1st concept more with the light to the side of the tank and no door panels :)

The light directly above the tank seems more "typical". To hide the wiring if you have your light to the side, are you able to drill a hole through the stand and run the wires into the stand?

Anemonebuff, thanks for the kind words. I love overhangs myself. It was made with a C-shaped plastic rack as a "sceleton" onto wich I strapped fitting pieces of live rock all around it. The fish love the overhang, and it allows me to hide a stream pump in a stream rock beneath the overhang without closing it in with rocks.

I definitely agree with that. something about the way the light overhangs with that 90degree bend seems to really make the design fit with the stairway much better. theyre both great tho!

Hey have any of you designers done any designs that would fit well in a mid century modern inspired space? We ordered all new furniture for our new place and most of it is mid century modern stuff and I was thinking some of you guys may have a nice idea for a stand? Nothing tough to build of course but something that would compliment the furniture we have purchased. So far we have a 2 sets of Barcelona chairs/ottomans that will be used side by side, a Le Corbusier Chaise Longue, Arco lamp and a few other simple leather/chrome chairs. Because this stuff is costing a small fortune, we are going to have to wait to add the sofa we have our eyes on but it is a beautiful 60's style retro "winged" minimal sofa, also with chrome...So lots and lots of chrome. Any ideas??? The room with be all black and white but with a very bold red accent color in either a large painting or I thought maybe the tank stand?

I would love to see some ideas...

Sorry that got so long :)

marlon17, Good luck on your cool project.
What makes you want to set this one up?
Why is the tank short than the table or stands?
Why not have fill the space?
What kind of lighting would hold like that? How many gallon is it?

justin, any shots of the new place? is a low profile stand an option?

Sorry no shots of our actual suite on hand. But I have a shot of the front entrance. The look and feel of this entrance is exactly how the loft we have purchased feels and looks. I will have actual pics of the place in a few weeks.

I actually prefer low profile :)

Thanks for taking the time to even think about this for me! I really admire your work and its pretty cool to get your opinion.

wow, a few light sources go a long way when everything is polished like that.

love the look and unified color scheme. nice warm lighting.
if your place has similar lighting, some nice blue bulbs would stand in sweet stark contrast.
