Justin,
out of curiosity, do you also have the aquamedic HQI pendant?? I have one too and had some issues at first but its working fine now.

No I have a big old spotlight reflector Im using from an old warehouse and a retrofit 250 watt MH. I have a fixture from DE Lightings coming from Singapore in a few weeks when my dad visits from there. Im not sure which I will use. The DE lightings will look better but the spotlight will give me way more of the look I want...Im just trying to figure out if I actually like it. It may be a little too industrial...

What problems did you have?

Let's try and get this thread back on track ;)

Check this tank out by BCXSY.

Wow - this is wild. Those fish swimming around in that thing are going to suffer an existential crisis!

This is my attempt to modern fish tank. This one is not saltwater, but one day it may be...

I hope you like it :)

I think your tank looks awesome. Nice living space too!

Freshwater planted tanks are some of the most beautiful tanks around.

This thread needs more action!

Heres a bit of an update on my set up. No change to the room yet but the tank is up and running. Unfortunately, it looks like I may be working down in LA for about 6 months though and Im not too sure what to do about the tank. My fiance is not home much and really has no idea how to care for it...sigh.

Some mangroves that are acclimating slowly to saltwater. These will eventually be grown in the display.

Very Feng shue...or Fung sue...or however you pronounce it! Nice mangroves :) I like the long tank with the spotlight and the skewed stand...very nice.

That's pretty cool. I think your wife's job will be ripping out macro algae that grows under that light over the next six months. ;)

I can't see the way the light connects to the conduit, but it looks somewhat industrial, the look that seems to go with the room at the moment.

Is that a tiny puffer? It's cute!

Yes weekly ripping out of macro algae was a big chore in the last tank and will again be in this one :D If I do go for 6 months though I may remove the Caulerpa because I don't feel very comfortable leaving it in the tank if Im not here to keep a close eye on it and make sure its happy.

The light just connects with a few hooks. I will take a closer picture.

It is a very little puffer. Burrfish to be exact.

Awesome-looking tank as always, Justin. :)

Thanks Im pretty happy with it. I can't wait to set up the next tank though! Theres so many things I would do differently. Looks like I will get the chance since I am going to be moving back down south early next year.

I have a complicated stand to build... Right now, the model looks like this:

I'd like to "contemporary-ize" it a little. What do the gurus say?

I'd definately make the tanks site flush with the surface of the stand. Use some sort of simple matte solid color for finish.

This is a really good idea but you could also do it as a room divider so the tanks are viewable from both sides.

It's going in my bedroom. The issue is that there are doors on either end, and there's not much space to put it.

Here's a (very) rough and not-to-scale layout of my room. The stand will be going where the dresser is now, as I use one of my closets for clothes storage.

what material do people use to get the smooth rounded edges on the skins of stands? the corners and the tank to stand interface.

My little contribution to this thread (which is one of my favorite threads on Reef Central).

20" cube largely prescribed by "ninjafish" who posted detailed descriptions on nano-reef.

The only visible equipment is an intake 'hole' that you can see in the up close tank shot.

It's a closed loop with an eheim pump, an inline chiller and heater. Filtration is water changes and a remora bak pak that I put on a couple nights a week and take off in the morning-- I can't stand looking at aquarium equipment.

I'd like to deal get a better looking light -- I tried the Giessseman pendants for nanos, but they were defective. Any ideas? The 20" of the tank makes a small light a must, but I love the 250W MH.

I still stink at close up photos. And there's still a lot of growing to do. It's only 16 months old, and has endured about 50 rock changes as I finalized aquascaping. I really believe 'less is more' and don't know why it took me so long to figure it out.

...sorry this one's a little fuzzy -- just got done scraping algae, and there's some cloudiness in the water.
