Does this seem like a disaster waiting to happen to anyone else?

I was actually thinking the same thing, but it depends... if the place has no children, and the space is used for just viewing, etc... but I know what you are getting at. I was thinking about how anal a person would have to be while cleaning that tank to prevent damaging the surroundings... or what if a fish jumped out? I suppose, that is always the 'what if'. But yeah, having a sitting area right ON a cube of glass like that with edges, etc. I see what you are getting at.

I love this thread! A lot of these tanks are how I would want my dream tank to look. I love the clean lines and "simplicity" of these designs. Post more pics!!

I'm a big fan of the suspended open canopy above ^

I think they look good in modern surroundings and over a rimless tank. A nice aesthetic solution versus a sit on top canopy or hanging light fixture IMO.

not mine, but pretty cool.

I always wanted to do a clam dedicated tank like this so that you could always look straight down at the clams...

nice thread Cam Barr!!! keep the pictures comin!

i really love the open top, but don't you get annoyed about the glares coming from the hanging lights or is it just me?

we should have a poll about these modern tanks hehehe...which one is the best in everything ( rimless tanks, hanging pendants, clean line cabinets, modern aquascaping like the bonzai inspired and the modern furniture or room of the owner).

italian, german and japanese inspired in one tank maybe?

I think its a matter of personal preference. I dont mind it as much. I really like having an open top it make the aquarium look allot cleaner and more sleak in my opinion.

I love this thread, and prefer Modern design, unfortunately it's sometimes hard to acheive with an aquarium.

My tank/room is far from Modern (my GF prefers traditional/contemporary) but I definitely tried to have the interior of the tank designed as minimalist as possible, so I think it somewhat fits the topic of this thread...plus there hasn't been any member's tanks pics in awhile!

Here's a shot from about a month ago (This was after my cycle and I'd just added the clowns, since then I've added snails/cleaner shrimp and my rock has colored up nicely)

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/philbys/2123314795/" title="another FTS by MrPhilby, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2300/2123314795_d61442fee1.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="another FTS" /></a>

Here's a shot of the tank/stand/canopy prior to getting wet.

And here's a shot to show that the tank itself is definitely not minimalist/modern - but like someone earlier said this is a science project and it's hard to blend the two. This is what I had to do "behind" the scenes to get the actual display to look minimal. This is the CL and return plumbing - it's even messier now because this pic is prior to the wiring for the lights...
