that sounds like bigger than 10g to me??? more like a 20?

but regardless, the presentation of that 10g is amazing. especially love the night time shot ;)

checked out your link and saw it explained fully:
"Outside Dimensions 48x11.75x7.875 made of 3/8" acrylic leaving
Inside Dimensions of 47.25x11x7.125 for those of you who have an issue with this, when you build your own nano tank and have almost 20% of your display volume tied up in materials (2 gallons) you can measure how you like.
Sump Dimensions of 36x5.25x7.125 (1/2" thick)
Resulting in a display volume of 10.2 gallons and sump volume of 2.5 gallon (sump is 1/2 filled)"

awesome setup man!!!!

YoitsArson-
thanks I am flattered and can't wait to see pics of your setup

Calvin-
sweet setup, I followed your thread on Nr (I think) and think that what you came up it is very out of the box

Well I'm not up to par with some of those in-wall's...but we do love modern design...here is our family room 125:

I have decided not to go ahead with ordering a new Elos set up because we are just buying a new condo and I really shouldn't spend a bunch of money on a new tank :)

But I am going to build a new stand for my tank I think. My question is, what can I use to skin a 2x4 stand to get a look like this Elos stand:

Or...any ideas on a cool material to skin a stand with? I want to get away from the typical wood.

Thanks guys!

What about acrylic and or formica?

Yeah I never really thought of using acrylic. Black Acrylic would probably work nicely. I guess I could use quite thin acrylic too since its just to skin a stand and not hold water :)

Formica is a plastic laminate right? Like used for counter tops? Or am I way off...

pretty cool current solana with some mod's i thought i would post. Im not a big fan of BB tanks Even though i have had a bb sps tank in the past... i think it takes away from the natural look of the aquarium. but i think the setup and over all design of this aquarium fits the modern profile in layout and design.

If you get thin acrylic, it will look wavy. However, if you applied plywood first (or MDF if you seal it well), it could be skinned with thin acrylic and look straight. Or just get thicker acrylic.

Formica is the same stuff used for countertops.

Maybe even a combination of dark acrylic and faux marble material.

I think I may try the Formica. That way I can just skin it with a plywood and apply another thin skin with the Formica.

Formica is pretty easy to apply. You'll use a rubber-cement type of glue on both sections, then carefully press them together, forcing out any air as you do so. Once glued, use a router with a laminate bit to trim off the overhang to get a clean corner. Lightly file or sand the edge to get a smooth beveled edge.

The Elos stand you were wanting to emulate seemed to be two different materials which is why I was suggesting two different medias. However, you can use two different colors of formica, or just one.

use car paint..

of course my personal choice would be the :

main stand = plywood (exposed edges)

inner box = white glossy finish.

use car paint..

You could have the stand skimmed with metal, then take it to Maaco to have it professionally sprayed with the color of your dreams. :)

I love this idea but Im not sure about going this far...

Can you really use car paint on wood? I though car paint was only sprayed on and in large volumes. Can you buy car paint in smaller amounts???

It wouldn't even need to to be metal.. just polyprimered first.

are you thinking what I'm thinking? Gold flake?
