They'll die. In addition to being sucked into the filtration and blown about by powerheads, they have to be fed a very specific diet.
 
It makes me wonder how they manage to survive in the wild as well as they do

I'd probably start with the fact that they have a few million gallons of water vs a hundred or two. A heck of a lot more hiding places in the ocean. There also aren't as many predators in such tight quarters either if I had to guess.
 
Plus it's all a numbers game, which is why they produce the number of eggs that they do and in such fequency, times that by all the others that are also spawning during he same time. Even if only 1 out of a 1000 survive, there's many many times that through the year to keep the species going.
