The DRC doesn't actually have a problem with funds right now. We actually have a bit tucked away that will support the club for a while. Or instead of just holding on to the money and just surviving what might work out better would be finding ways to spend money. If there is something like a trip or a speaker or anything else you can suggest that would boost the number of regular attendees then that is the direction we should head.
In the end spending a little bit of money could bring in more members which would boost the revenue made in membership fees allowing us to grown. More members, more activity, and bigger events will all lead to more shared knowledge which is the goal.
As sort of an answer to your question there are larger clubs which ask for a small donation for every transaction that happens in the club from either the buyer or the seller. The money brought in by this isn't a lot though. With such a small club at this point though it wouldn't be worth the income and would slightly discourage people from attending the meetings just to trade when they could communicate in the forums and do it for free.
What will bring in a lot of money to the club would be a large frag swap. Bringing in lots of vendors, having large raffles, and big name speakers will bring lots of ticket sales. Many large clubs across the country do this including the NJRC which had one about a month before you started posting which several of us attended.
Eventually I would LOVE to do something like this, but we would need a board larger then our club to organize something like this and a lot more dedication. We have to start one small step at a time.
