Montgomery area get together

For all interested in getting together in the Montgomery area, whether just to meet some local people or to discuss ideas for frag swaps in the area, we'll be holding a get together for August 9th at my house in Montgomery. We live off of I85 at Perry Hill and are pretty easy to find. I'll post more info on exactly where and phone numbers when we get closer to the date.

If you are potentially interested in coming out, please post below so I can get an idea of how many are coming. Hopefully, I'll have my tank room finished by then... Hope to see as many as think they can make it.

Chris, I've never been to a frag swap either. I'm sure as this "get together" all that will be covered. So, if you can make it we will all learn about frag swapping I guess!

Sounds like it's going to be a cozy little get together. Feel free to bring anyone you know that might be interested. This will be a kind of feeler type meeting. We all haven't met, but in the early days of MTRC, people'd bring pictures of their tanks and corals to meetings and start making swapping deals for the next meeting. Pretty soon, the pictures weren't needed (everyone got to see a different tank just about every month, or went to pick up corals from someone and got to see their set up in person). It fueled my addiction because I could try new things and not spend an arm and a leg to watch something die. It kicked my SPS infatuation into high gear for sure when MTRC started up. We had fishdoc, so we had some really nice corals floating around.

So, just to clarify, is this a frag swap or a get-to-know-each-other meeting? Are we laying the groundwork for a Montgomery area club? :beer:

Like many others, I've never been to a swap, but I have much to offer - I don't want to show up empty handed if everyone else brings frags...

This is more of an initial get together to discuss options. I don't see a reason why frags couldn't be swapped at the meeting, though. I've got a 40B loaded with frags. If nothing else, bring some pictures of your tanks to show off. I'd like to get an idea for what everyone is wanting in terms of a swap and if there is interest in some sort of club to see how we should go forward. Usually, the meetings last a few hours (more because when you get multiple reef geeks in the same room, there is plenty to chat about). We'll plan on having some snacks and what not (dips, cream cheese roll ups, etc.). BYOB, if interested. Most of the meetings I've been to are more socially driven than formality driven.

I have been waiting a long time for someone in the Montgomery area to get together. I would be very interested in coming out and meeting a few local reefers and hopefully we can lay a foundation for future meetings and frag swaps.

I didn't see any 'no's' on the time change, so lets say the meeting time will be 6:00. That'll give Omega time to get off work and reset before heading over.

I'm getting this out a little later than I'd hoped (been in the hospital with kidney stone #6 and one of the worst to date...). My addy is 2538 Winchester Road in Montgomery. Coming from I-85, take exit 4-Perry Hill Road-going south. Perry Hill turns into fieldcrest at the big Church of Christ and Vaughn Park. Pass between the COC and the park, you'll hit two sharp 90 degree curves, then a stop sign at Winchester Road. Take a right on Winchester (left is a dead end). We are the first one story house on the left. six 52-3seven six9 is my cell. I think a few people will be bringing corals for swap/sale, and I'll have tons, as well.

See you all Saturday. Hopefully, this will turn into something. It all depends on whether or not people actually want anything to come from it. If nothing else, we'll get a small social group together that gets together every once in a while to trade and sell corals and talk reef.

Hope all is well...I heard kidney stones are rough. I will be praying for you.

Just to let you know about this weekend---we decided last nite to go to FL this whole weekend. We haven't been on vacation in over a year, so I would have been shot down on staying home to go look at corals I'm afraid. HOwever, I'm still interested in getting together in the future and helping out in getting anything started. Sorry about this, but take notes and fill me in....
