monti cap regrowth ?

If a monti cap was completely lost to disease and bleached out, would it be possible to place a new, healthy monti cap frag on the dead colony skeleton to "seed" new growth on it? Do you think it would cover the old skeleton like a new layer of skin, or do you think it would take on a whole new growth structure?

I recently saw one in a local LFS that had almost completely died - but it had some new growth. It looked like the new growth was adding a new layer and new whorls to the old skeleton, so it looked like it would always be obvious that some parts of it had died.

Sure U can, but they will not take the same shape like the dead one. :)

I had one die back so far, I almost pitched it, gave it some more time and it back all the way. It grew back over the old skeleton, similar in shape, but not the same.

Thanks guys. I just picked up this gorgeous swirling red cap over the weekend and it's already brown jellying on me but I don't want to frag it because I absolutely love it's formation. Do you think a frag would take on the same formation as the mother colony? I just hate frags though.

or if you losse the whole piece just take an encrusting monti and lay it there that will grow onto the dead skelonton cuase that what it does.

nope, it will attach to the skeleton but in its own formation which is mostly up. Break off the the infected parts or at least scrub it off with a tooth brush and give it an iodine soak.
