Monti v Palys?

I have a colony of Red Galaxy palys I'm growing out. A purple encrusting monti is climbing up the base of the frag plug. Initially, I liked this because it secured the plug into the rockwork nicely so I didn't need to worry about the frag plug taking a tumble down the rockwork. Now, I'm wondering if I should avoid the warfare. Can anybody say one way or the other who is going to win when these two meet?

nobody can say for sure which will "win", but (most likely) the protos and monti will co-exist just fine next to each other. I vote no intervention.

What was it the French used to call it... lezzy fair?

Borneman notes zoanthus often grow on monitpora on the reef, whether they clear a spot by killing some monti polyps or just or just take squatter's rights opportunistically isn't clear. In the words of Paul McCarntney I'd probably " Let it Be" or if it's a french coral" laissez faire".

Update: montipora is steamrolling through my paly colony. I'll have to break the frag out and hopefully I'll be able to gently pry off the montipora and relocate.

is thier room for the palys to grow/spread the other way now? or is the monti growing faster than the palys?
