"Moody" Tyree toadstool

I've had this coral about a week and it looks pretty good when it's open, but it does tend to retract its polyps and close up frequently. It goes between open and closed throughout the day and even at night. I'm sure it's still acclimating, but is this anything to worry about? The other corals in the tank (M. digitata and Turbinaria) both look just fine.

Sounds normal to me! I just bought a toadstool last month. Mine acted the same way, it took a week to fully aclimate. It is open up pretty much all the time , ocassionly it closes fo no apparent reason. Last week it had closed up for a couple of day but I believe it was actually shedding , and is fairly common from what I hear.

I do not know if mine is a tyree , but here is a pic. It has grown noticebly since I obtained it about month ago.

This pic will show the size and placement.

Do you have some pictures?

Even after fully acclimated to your water, they will still retract polyps through out the day. Just what they do.

Following along. I bought one last saturday and have yet to see ANY polyp extension. I see little green dots sometimes where the polyps would come out, but they never do.

I have had mine quite a while now (2 years) and it is as described, Mine won't polyp out for 2 weeks after cutting, It closes every night and at least once a day.

my tyree toadstool grows like a champ. it wasnt open for about a week after i got it but its tripled in size in 6 months. polyps are out all day, and even at night a lot of the time. its under medium light and medium/high intermittent flow. it tends to get stressed with tank switches but after its settled in it feels right at home :)
