Moonlight questions

I run my actinics from 10-7. The "moonlights" are in my dreams... Bad joke. Corals need a down time too. (darkness)

One thing I noticed is that the coral do respond to the moonlight LED's in varying degrees. I used to have them on all night when all the other lights are out. I noticed that my zoas were not opening all at the same time. Some were open with the metal halides/T5 light, some were open when the moonlights were on. I changed it so that the monlights were on only for a few hours after the othher lights were out. Now all the coral are open together.

The moonlights offer no significant benefit to the coral. They are there just for our viewing pleasure, and because it looks so cool!

I turn them on from the time my t5's turn off until around bed time. I don't think they promote any type of algae growth.

I only turn mine on when I want to look at it with them on, I am not sure if that would be frowned upon though...

I have my normal Lights on from 9am to 6pm, then moonlights from 6pm to 10pm for the cool effect.

I use mine a couple hours after lights out and a couple hours before lights on kinda like an extended dusk and dawn.

I guess it depends on the moonlight you are using. I have LEDs and the blue lights only run a portion of the night. They are almost as strong as the white and violet and they do create some algae growth.
