Moray question

I am debating on getting a moray for my 240g tank. I would keep only the eel in it. What I am wanting to know is does anyone have any experience with keeping either a Green Moray or a Tesselatta ( excuse the spelling if incorrect ) Moray?
I am looking for any input on this. Right now I have no plans for this, I'm just researching, I've read the books but would like first hand experience information if possible.

Thanks in advance.

I would advise against getting a Green Moray. They can and will reach the length of your tank. A Tess. would do fine, as long as he's the only thing in the tank. Both of those species are known fish eaters, so any plans on putting other fish in should get scratched out.

Yeah, I was planning just the eel. I have always been fascinated with morays and since I have a decent size tank thought 1 big eel would be pretty cool.
From what have been reading though both eels get around the same size, do you know any personality diferences in them?

I would go with the tessalata. They are gorgeous when they get big. But beware, when they get into the 2 foot and over range they are a menace. We had one at lfs I worked at that was 3 feet long. We had to keep cement blocks on top of the tank so he wouldn't get out. Also don't think about putting your hand in the tank when they reach a large size. I used to give this on adult blue claw crabs and you could here the crunching outsiude the tank. It is quite a display having a large tessalata I must say. Also they make quite the mess. The green maoray may be even more agressive and I think they get bigger. Hope this helps.

The only fish I ever feared was a two foot black-edged moray that would go into a feeding frenzy all the time. He killed fish and went after me. I am very happy with my zebra moray and Brazilian Dragon moray.

Would you consider keeping some smaller, mellower eels in a group in that tank? It would make quite a nice display.

I've had a Jeweled moray, Fimbriated moray and currently have a SFE. I'm just toying with the idea of going with a big moray. All of the ones I've had so far have been between 2 and 3ft.

IMO, go with the tess. The green moray will reach around 8 ft in length, maybe even longer. IMO green moray's need to stay in the ocean.

FYI, a tess can also reach almost 6 feet.

Still, Greens reach 8'....Try putting one of those in an 8' tank. Wouldn't exactly be the happiest fish. ;)
