Well, after that IceCap light debacle with getting stuff in stock from them in a reasonable time, I bought two Nova II's from you guys with XM20k's for bulbs.
Plugged them in and test them a few weeks ago for five minutes each. Everything worked great.
Finally got around to needing them since I am three weeks into my tank cycle and want to get some light on the tank. Four days ago I plugged in the lights, and everything worked great. Unplugged the lamps after being on for 14 hours and went to bed.
Next morning, went to plug in the lights. The left light fired right up. Right light did not light up. Unplugged it and made breakfast, came back and plugged it in. Flickered a few times and did not come on. Figured the cord was loose on the ballast and unplugged the green brick. Plugged it back in and it fired up after a few flickers. Ran it 14 hours and turned it off for the night.
Yesterday, I plugged in the lights and the right one did not want to start up. Plugged and unplugged, swapped power cords, and finally swapped the ballast around and it came up. Plugged in the on the left and it fired up too. Ran them 14 hours and pulled the plug from the wall on both again.
Plugged them in this morning and prepared to fight the left one. Plugged it in, and it fired up. I figured that I fixed the issue and was good to go. Plugged in the right one, and it did not fire up. Swapped ballast around, nothing changed. Messed with the ground wire, got nothing. Plugged and unplugged the lamp harness a few times and got nothing. Checked the ends on the wire and nothing. Swapped power cords around, got nothing. Swore a few times at it, stared at it, and remembered that there is one other thing I forgot about, the bulb.
Swapped the bulbs around, and the left light would not start. Pulled the bulb back out and put the original one back in, and it worked. Pulled that one out, threw it in the right lamp, and it fired right up. Pulled the working bulb out, put the suspect one in, did not work. Pulled the non-working out, working in and it worked again.
Pulled the working one out and compared the bulbs. No scorch marks, no black marks, no broken filaments in the bulbs, not discolored or anything. The only difference is that the working one had half of the bulb marking still there and the non working one didn't.
So, to wrap up a long story, am I out a bulb or can I swap the defective one and pick up a spare bulb?
I'm about ready to go fish only and light the tank with a flash light..... ''
