Excuse me Sk8r, but I hope you are not referring to my hippo tang having ICK, as it doesnt, thank you. It has a scratch and like i said, was purchased from a reputable, trusted friend and a fish who I have had my eye on for over a month (hence the no quarentne). and you can disagree without my doing a quarentine and thats fine but please dont say my fish has Ick, not very nice.

I don't think she was saying that your tang had ick. In your thread she said that it was nice that you had someone that could QT it for you. Ease up, there are a lot of tang threads on here where people do have ick.

Interesting and appalling about velvet, snorvich. It's a disease I've never had to cope with: scary stuff!

Yes, she did say that it was nice that they were already quarentend but that was after my post here. Lets ask her, were you referring to my fish Sk8r? Im sure you wouldnt like people saying your fish had Ick if they didnt. Thats not very nice :(

It is scary stuff. I put a write up on that one on my blog as well. I simply hate to see people lose their hard earned display tank when it can be prevented. It is also why I normally quarantine ONE fish at a time; the exception being if two new fish shared water at their source.

Yeah its funny how many people and shops don`t even understand the definition of QT "a period of forced isolation".

This is what she said about your fish.

Cuts, scratches, even a badly nipped fin, all heal very fast---with one caution: if you see anything like fuzzy white cotton developing around the cut or on the fin edge, you will have to catch and treat: that would be a bacterial infection, treatable with antibiotic, which must be given in a hospital tank, not your display. Sadly if we're talking about rock, I fear this fish wasn't quarantined, which puts the whole tank at risk of parasite infestation. If it develops any white dots like grains of salt, that's ich; if that shows up, again, the fish MUST be caught and treated, but not with antibiotic---etc.

You need a quarantine tank. That should be your first step with a new fish.

Nothing about having "anything" just what to watch out for. Let's be nice here.

I monitor hundreds of posts, TankStuds, in this and many other forums. I shall remember not to offend you with further assistance or advice, and wish you good fortune with your tank.

Calling out RC staff is probably not a winning strategy.

Just to let you know Sk8r I think you give GREAT advice and have helped me out!!!!!!!!!:)

Amen to that. I would be a nice idea to have all of her posts in a MS Word document for reviewing. Some might actually bind it and call it a book!!!

Yes, you give great advice. Im not saying you dont :) Please dont get this twisted. You are very knowledgable (sp!) and I could learn a lot from you, as Im sure many could. However, you did reference my post about my hippo in this thread. This is what Im angry about you said in refernce to my tank and wanted a simple, "O, sorry about that".: "And let me add: I have had to advise 2 people this morning that, yes, they have ich, and in both cases, ---it is in their display tank."

I play very nice and am very respectful, especially with people I can learn from SK8r, but that statement did flare my irish temper a bit lol... but theres no hard feelings. :love1:

I completely agree. She not only gives great advice, but also takes the time to explain why. One of the most helpful, and patient people in the RC community.

She made absolutely no reference to YOUR tank having ich. Why should she apologize for giving you great advice?

Indirectly, yes she did. All I wanted was a "O sorry" but I looks like its not coming, so theres nothing else to say other then this got way off topic!
Everyone can put their weapons down ;) Im a lover not a fighter... as long as you arent talking about my family or fish LOL! ESPECIALLY my fish :fish2:

LOL, No she did not. She helps MANY people here every day. How do you know that she was referring to you, and not somebody else? She even addressed this matter herself in the other thread.

I hate to break this to you but your tank is too small for this fish. It is also yet to be determined if your fish has ich, IMO. How big is the fish? Did the trusted friend know the size of your tank? Just because the fish is showing no signs of having ich, that does not mean that it doesn't have ich. Did your friend QT the fish for you, or as you stated, did you just watch this fish for a month? Are you aware that this fish grows super fast and a 240g is the minimum recommended tank size for a Hippo Tang? Also, were the other, if any, inhabitants Qted before they were placed in the DT? These are important questions to ask yourself before you can really determine if ich exists in your DT.

WOW! I didn't mean to cause such a commotion with my reply. That was not my intent. I apologize if I didn't articulte my thoughts very clearly. It was late and I had just got home. I'm pretty sure the adult beverges I had didn't help much either. Anyways, I wasn't trying to imply that one should not quarantine. It's a great practice, don't get me wrong, but sometimes it's just not always feasible. (money, space, your parents telling you that one tank is enough) I could have swore that the OP had said that he/she wasn't going to be able to do this. I figure just because somebody doesn't quarantine, that doesn't neccessarily mean that there going to be doomed from the start. Stranger things have happened. I think I'm proof of that. I've been doing this for 14 years now and have never found the need to set up a quarantine tank. I've actually introduced fish that have had ick, popeye, lymphocystisis into my system only to watch them heal up and become part of the crew. I think people need to realize that things like this do happen. There's something to be said about a healthy environnment, and a quarantine tank doesn't always have to be a prelude to it. Just as an example, I'm seeing more and more people just dropping their snails into their tanks without any type of acclimation, and they don't seemed to be having any problems. Most people would tell you not to do that. What's that old saying, "If we were all doing the same thing we would go nowhere?" Well, there you go. As long as your doing what you think is right, then your fine. Just remember though, going against the grain is not always wrong. That's it. Good luck...:)

I think that's some of the worse advice I've seen yet.

No way! You really just said that??? That just the converse of OUR discussion. In essence, You are telling me that you keep tangs in tanks of a size that "feels right" to you - but now when somebody else says effectively the same thing, they are wrong? My jaw has dropped to the floor.....
