I am trying to find out if fresh water dips for baby maxs are worth whyle for a pinched mantle...or is one better off not performing the dip?

the trick is not to dip them for a long time, being that their body mass is not much i only do a 5 minute bath or less. unlike larger clams that can take 15 minutes.

Thanks Julio...the freash water dip for baby max''s is a difficult subject to get any information on. I was hoping to have at least 10 votes on the poll to get an idea for how sucessful the dips are but that dosent look like that will happen, tanks agen for the st hand quality information!

i don't think there many people who buy baby max, i know now the only ones i see forsale are babies so that might change soon.

The same here, although there is one site that has the larger ultra maxs for sale, but are quite expensive and site unseen, meaning you purchase the size say a three inc clam, but arnt WYSWYG format, untill now I have had pretty good luck with the baby maxs, at the moment I have three that are struggling but are hanging in there...

I did not vote, as I've only done this once with good results. From my previous thread of my new ultra max's, the green one had a slightly pinched mantle. Last sunday I gave him a FWD. Only matched the temp of the RO to my display water. Put him in a specimen container for 30 minutes. He was not too happy. Shell was closed tight the entire time. Returned to the display, and within 2 hours, his mantle was peeking out the shell. The next day he was looking better, but not fully extended. Yesterday I was home from work, and he is pretty much fully extended. Looks good.

Now the blue one, he is still struggling, but seems to be looking better. His mantle is pulled in, slightly extends a bit. Been feeding DT's daily. I have not done a FWD on this guy, as Im afraid it might do him in.

The key to survivabilty with dips is do not wait too long to treat after pinching appears.. If the clam is severly pinched and is not responding to light changes by moving your hand over the mantle he will usually not survive the dip. Also treat all clams in the tank, not just ones showing symptoms. Your poll does not take into account how ill the clam is when dipped. Strong clams will have 100% survivabilty.

Whooo had some great luck, diped all 9 of my baby maxs and all thus far have survived! and the condition of pinched mantle has been resoloved on all of the clams except for the yellow max that was in the worst shape(allthough its condition has improved my 75%)!

First time I dipped my baby max with pinched mantel it did fine, but after a month it returned dipped it again, dead the next day :(

I dipped all four of my clams, 1 is a baby blue max about 3 or four hours ago for 10 mins. It is extended now and looks fine. This was my first FWD with a clam.
