moving a clam with foot attached

I don't like the place it ended up and it's foot is attached firmly to a rock. Will I damage it by moving it?

it would be better to move the rock if you can. the truth of it is that you may not like where he ended up but he does. if you move him he will more than likely just move again.

agreed with a4twenty BUT if your intent...you can firmly but GENTLY coax it out...once it gets "tired" of fighting you, it will detatch...don't force it or you'll rip its foot out...that, my friend, could lead to death.

clamsdirect forum has some good info on removing the foot, try using a ice cube and push it up to the foot to get him to release

i would definitely not do that. all you are doing is putting pressure on the byssal gland untill it rips the threads.
