Moving a RO System

As most of you know we are moving. I plan on taking my water filter system off line today and install it in our new house for drinking water and ice maker. It will probably be a few weeks before I get it hooked up. Does anyone know if there is anything special I need to do to ensure I do not damage the membrane or filters? It also has a pressurized storage tank. I am guess all I need to do is shut the water off and drain it.....correct?

Bob, i think as long as you keep the membrane wet you are good to go. On the pressure tank, just make sure you close the valve before you un-hook it......i got wet doing that before. Oooops.

Bob

When I moved mine I unhooked the water line and installed valves on the inlet and outlets of the filter. It was offline for several weeks without any issues at all.

Wet= stagnant water, bacteria, and mold... I personally think I would just replace the carbon, and floss filters. The membrane and DI could be packed in DI water or even better would be, DI water that you have microwaved and allowed to cool. DI is not necissary for an ice machine and could be pitched also. It would be a good way to add a drinking water polishing carbon.

Hey Bob, I would put a quick fitting shut-off valve on both the input and output of the system and move it. None of the cartridges or membrane would be exposed to air so you should be fine.

Good ideas on the quick fittings....you guys are so smart...regular friggin' rocket scientists.

;)

As long as it's air tight your all right, don't have anymore jg fittings? or did you sell them all to me?

I'd go down to Lowe's and pick up a couple of quick fittings if you don't have any. If you don't want to use them, you could bend your ro tubing in half and put a rubberband on the ends to keep the line pinched down so that it doesn't leak. Just trying to think outside the box!

How about just just putting tape on the input and output? then just be carefull with it?

How about you loop the output into the input.

Billy...you are my hero :D

Worked like a charm. It will probably only be a few days until it gets hooked back up. She is already trying to get water from it knowing that I took it out! Habit!

Sounds good. What kind of system do you have going? For the most part I am all SPS, at least the fraggable stuff anyway.
