Moving a tank long distance?

It's not a done deal but I might be moving to Vegas. Does anyone know of anyway possible to move your livestock that far? Couldn't bear the thought of selling all and starting over!

Thanks

Vagas baby ? that far I would just sell the whole set up,and start over.;)

I moved from Cincinnati and ditched all but a couple choice pieces. Would recommend doing the same.

Too much hassle. Start fresh!

I moved part of a tank once with an inverter off my cigarette lighter and a small power head. It was an absolute PITA, but everything made it. I agree with Menard, sell it all and take all the proceeds for a gambling expedition in your new home. You may even win enough to get the 1000 gallon tank you've always dreamed of. :) Then again, you are much more likley to be broke and tankless in Vegas. Congrats on the move, no more cold winters!

Or you

I have a nightmare moving story. When I moved from Ohio to IL, which was only a 6hour drive, I moved a 125 and a 55. My LFS had a O2 tank and he let me borrow it to pack which was cool. I had a buddy help me and we got all the corals packed up in the morning. The 1st problem was the movers couldn't find my place, so I didn't end up leaving till 8pm. I didn't get to IL till 1am (2am eastern) and then had to start setting up the tank. Mind you I was only on about 2hrs of sleep b/c I was up packing the house for the movers the night b4. Anyways I got my 125 filled up 3/4 of the way and then POP!!! I had a seam pop on me. Luckly I had some clamps to hold the tank together till I could get the water out. I then had to try and fit everything into the 55. What a Nightmare that was. I'll never move a tank that far again and set it right back up. If I were you I'd sell all the coral and then set up the tank once you were settled in. Or better yet take this opportunity and sell everything and UPGRADE to a larger tank!

I'm not even moving and I want to start over!

Seriously, I moved a 125g a short distance from Darien to St. Charles and I wish I would of sold and started over. I was pressured to get the system up and running ASAP while trying to move into a new home. I would of actuallly ENJOYED sitting in my new home, with a pad and paper, and planning the new setup. Then putting it together, with all the correct parts, just they way I wanted without rushing. That would of been fun.

Good Luck

Do you know anyone that could keep your favorite pieces in their tank until you get set up, and then they could ship them out to you.

The more I think of this the more depressing it gets! I was originally thinking battery powered air stones, but the trip is probably to long. If I killed everything I would fell worse.

Here's a thought. Why don't you take your favorite corals and frag them off. Then give them to a few fellow club members. That way when you move you're just worrying about moving your drygoods and then when you get your tank all set back up and running you can have those who got your frags from you frag them and send them out to you. You'll have the same stuff in your tank, just a younger tank to enjoy again.
