moving a tank

I have a 100 gallon acrylic tank that I need to move in the next 3 weeks. Fortunatly I will have possession of both locations for a few days before and after the move so there is no problem making new water.

The part Im worried about is the sand. I have had the tank running for 7-8 months. If I remove all the sand then put it back in will I kill everything?

Should I just rinse the sand to be safe?

There is about 75 lbs of sand and 100lbs of rock.

Suggestions?

Five gallon buckets with lids. :)

Use the water from your current tank to fill the bucket enough to cover the rock/sand in it. I'd take the opportunity to rinse the sand as well.

Good luck.

Can you leave the sand in the tank and move it that way? That's the way I move my old 90. I only had a 2" - 3" sand bed though.

I only have a 2-3" bed but the problem is I have 2 flights of stairs to go down to get to the truck. So I have a feeling the sand would more or less move the same as removing it from the tank.

Yea just rinse it well. (with salt water).

You will be fine.

If the sand was older I would just say to replace it.

Remove the sand before moving the tank. You don't want that extra weight while moving the tank. It can stress the seams.
