Moving to los angeles.. a few questions.

There's an area just west of the 405 and just south of Wilshire that is technically West LA but is really a Santa Monica/Brentwood neighborhood. Roughly 2 miles from the beach which is plenty close enough to bike over, but not so close you deal with the absolute misery of being right on the beach.
Be forwarned that many of the buildings that look like apartments around there are actually condos, and many of the remaining small apartment buildings are being torn down to build new condos -- but the ones left often have large units for reasonable prices.
Avoid beach communities in that area (anything within about 1/2 mile of the ocean). The buildings are dirty, cold, smell like 50 years of skunkweed, priced outrageously high, and the parking/traffic is horrendous especially on weekends.
If you or your girl finds a possible spot, post the address. I'm sure someone on this forum will know the area and can give you the inside scoop.

Yeah, I'd echo most of the other reccs. Don't rent super close to the beach. You pay out the wazoo for it and most of the buildings aren't in good shape.
Being close to work is HUGE. My commute is a whopping 10 mins. It adds huge dimensions to my life by not sitting in traffic or getting all road raged up commuting.
That being said depending on where you are going even a 2 mile drive can be eternity in W.L.A. during rush hour.
There's a street called Rose Ave between Overland and Sepulveda. Good freeway access, lots of reasonable rental units, not too far from the beach. It's "Los Angeles" so you don't pay out the wazoo to be in "Santa Monica". Not Ghetto. Used to live there myself.

Meh he can check out Vividaquariums, TheAquarium City, Rainbow Pets, SeaScape all here in the (818).
Anyway I was in WeHo the other day, I dont recall I've ever seen 2 guys walking a pink poodle. Or 2 guys riding a pink motorized scooter together.
Not to mention all the wannabe celebrities there. I'd have more fun diging my own grave or playing roshambo then walking down those streets man.:lol:
Only thing that was cool there was a huge 100 foot painting of Michael Jordan, a Bentely Coupe v12 Sports edition and a 2006 Maybach with low profile rims that was pretty cool.
If this guy wants to come live in So Cal go live near the beach man.

Well the time has come. We leave on weds to start the drive across america.
Only problem is our apartment fell through. She hasent filed a w2 yet at the new job, and i dont have one yet. Because the landlord couldnt verify employment, they denied us and are showing the apartment. Wish they didnt say it was ours already.
No big deal. It just means we have to stay with friends for a bit while we search for an apartment and it will be longer till i can set up a tank. Booo.
Cant wait to get settled in out west. Im going to miss the richmond reef club here in virginia. Good group of people.
