MP40 placement?

I have a MP40 on my 120, and I was wondering how close to the water surface can you put these pump without it drawing air shooting it out into the tank? Do you put the wide tab that is on the wet side on top, will that help not making a tornado of air. Thanks. Also I'm running it about 75%. The reason I'm asking is I want to add a second one and it will go on the right side of my tank were it will have to go higher up than the one on the left. thanks

Usually you can get them to about 3" from the surface without pulling a vortex. Place the covered portion of the screen pointing up to help with this.
