Mr and Mrs Reef - 290g in wall build

Verdict is in. Ecotech confirmed the MP40s aren't going to work on our 3/4" tank. They said we "must be slightly over 3/4". Picture def shows it being at or even slightly under.

Bummed. We opened all 4 packages to see if they'd work. Now we can't return them. Looks like two will be going up for sale.

I used I micrometer to check the thickness today. .735 thick I would think they would under rate them a little bit not over rate there product. We both thought a lot of ecotech before this "look at all we have bought from them" and all they can say is yep there not going to work! The least they could do is offer our money back because we open them to try them we can't take them back. I guess mo60 will hold but I don't really want that big of a head showing nor do I want to shell out the cash that kind of cash to ecotech again.

So I'm looking for other ideas for power heads now. I like the idea of 2 gyre 150 on each end of the tank tank. Anyone out there with a 300 gallon tank running 2 of these?? Do you think 2 is enough flow?

I am putting a 300 gallon 10'x24"x26" in my dining room and I am using 2 gyre 150s in it...I bought one for my 135 gallon to see how good it is and I am extremely impressed...I had 3 of the high end Sicce powerheads in my 135 and the gyre replaced them all and the water flow is noticeably better with just its self running...I will have one on each end hooked to a wave maker..simple and very effective...

Yeah I wouldnt trust Ecotech on their spec limitations. Some time back people with glass Leemar tanks reported something similar as you got closer to that .75 inch threshhold. Heck on my smallerLeeamar I adjusted the spacers exactly as required via instructions, yet the magnet was a bit too strong, and actually pulled too hard on the wet side pulling the entire impeller assembly through the plastic housing... and yeah they tried to blame me on that too

Awesome! We are really leaning towards these. Glad to hear you've had good experience.

They've requested a video of what's happening. I'll be sending that to them this week. Highly doubt they'll do anything. But who knows.

Jeremy (MrReefK) mounted the 2 Dos's yesterday, I hooked up two ALD's on the apex (advance leak detectors). I can't figure out how to program the apex to text me if an ALD goes of, that's my project to get to this week. He also made a shelf and placed the Kalk stirrer.

Waiting on a BRS order to arrive that we ordered yesterday to continue further. Pretty soon we will have AWC and ATO rolling! Cannot wait.

Still no fish in QT, waiting a few weeks as I'm traveling for work. I feel bad leaving Jeremy with the TTM when I'm gone.

Took down our 40g breeder holding tank today. Moved all of the (good) frags over to the frag tank. Took all of the softies to the LFS. $300 credit there now, I'll take it! I don't like purchasing any live stock from them, so will likely take it as credit towards an MP60. MP40's are all sold, shipping out next week. Bring it on MP60's, hopefully they do the trick!

Other than that, boy. We have a lot going on still. Jeremy is cleaning up a lot of loose ends, have a few valves leaking, very minor leak, but need to get it cleaned up.

After the MP60's we are done buying dry equipment minus the xr15 for the frag tank.

Chaeto and string of pearls macro algae went into QT.

Water in DT is cloudy for some reason, diatoms are in full bloom. Going to hook up the carbon here soon to try and see if that will solve the cloudiness. I'm out of town the next two weeks, so Jeremy will be tending to it.

Jeremy made a kick butt setup for the ATO tank, hides the float valve and other valves, keeps it very clean.

You'll be fine with MP60s, and IMO they are much better built than the MP40s (at least in my limited experience of 6-MP40s vs. 1-MP60 :D)

While drilling the 40g breeder, Jeremy figured out the bottom was tempered glass, shattered! Waiting for the $1/gallon sale to take advantage of saving a few bucks... Can't do that very often in this hobby.

First official order of fish and inverts comes on Wednesday, very excited. Kicking them off with a formalin dip, TTM and prazipro during TTM.

MP60's are on the tank. I cannot believe we hesitated and bought MP40's in the beginning. The MP60's are amazing. So quiet and the movement is darn impressive.

Carbon and GFO are up and running. I think of round some dreaded bryopsis in the fuge, I hope I got it all. Watching closely to be sure.

Here's some pics of the current frag tank. Not sure how to take the blue out with iPhone.... Sorry. Posting these to keep track of growth. There a few softies in there, those won't be hitting the display besides some Zoas.

First shipment of fish! They had their formalin bath for 40 min and are settling in nicely into QT to start day one of TTM.

The 6 line is not for the DT, he will be by himself in the frag tank.

It's nice to recoup some cash from the build. Had a few extra bags of live sand that we traded for SPS frags, dipped and placed in QT. Had about 125 lbs of LR leftover that we sold as well.

Fish are doing good in QT, sand sifting goby has quite the pinched stomach though, trying to beef him up.

Red scarlet hermits, didn't fare so well, have had 4 out of 12 die or show no signs of life so far. Odd, but everything else is doing good.

This next week we are programming the auto water change and ATO with the Dos. We will be smooth sailing then!

QT on the last fish order is going well. Dips went good, and prazipro going good. Had one fatality, yellow head jaw fish. He was an itty bitty guy though, much smaller than small. Poor thing. All other fish are of decent size and are doing well and eating like fools. Sad sifting gobies belly was totally pinched when he came in, really pushing to beef him up. TTM is nice, gives me the opp to over feed them to get them strong and knowing that they're getting 100% water change (well, new tank :) ) every 3 days.

How to scare the living day lights out of a reefer and see them run as fast as possible in the middle of the night: wake up at 430 to get a drink only to hear some loud water moving around and almost air sucking noise from the basement. Run through the "utility" room into the fish room, staring at every possible root cause frantically... Nothing. Confused, start walking back out to realize in the next room the water softener is on recycle or whatever you call that. Guess there is a first for everything, never have heard the cycle before now.

I hear ya - leak detectors - I am gonna get myself a couple...just in case.

Yes! We have 2 ALD's (advance leak detectors) on the apex right now. I need to get one more to cover bases. I didn't even consider the fact "if water was leaking, the ALD would've notified me" lol.

My Mr and Mrs Reef. I would like to compliment you on such a clean and amazing build. I just read through your entire thread. I have 4 MP40s on my .75 inch thick acrylic and have had no issues. They can fall off the first time you set them but once they are perfectly lined up which they will do on their own after running once they have never fallen off since. Keep up the great work! I love the attention to detail you guys have planned out. Thank you for sharing.
