Mr. Cena's 800 gallon Reef Tank

yep agree with ya lauracline they closed down about 2 weeks ago and havent talked to ray since then so i think this thread will get any updated pics... sad though!!

Just to let you know Mystic Marine may be closed but Ray has moved on to bigger and better things. He has joined Aquaholics Anonymous Aquariums, L.L.C. which should celebrate their Grand Opening in the beginning of August. Currently Ray is working on a 2200 reef tank, along with maintaining and building John Cena's tank, as well as other large projects. Ray didnt need Mystic, Mystic needed Ray...so he's moved on! More pictures WILL come! You can email Ray at AquaholicsRay@gmail.com for more info!

Wow, I just read the hole thread, first I would like to say I am impressed on how well those 1k penetrate the full length of the tank.

Second, I noticed the addition of corals, what are you using to manage Alk? (Sorry if I missed it in the thread)

Also, would like more pictures of the filtration in action....

Great tank BTW looks like quality work by a quality company.

PS. John Cena has nothing on Chuck Norris! :)

any update? i know ive been trying to get into contact with ray but that SOB seems he never has time for anyone lol

After reading all of this, I would have to say with the coin he has, I would have went with a Solaris Led system, a Bubblemaster or Tunze skimmer, and a bigger sump with fuge. The heat alone in that system not to mention his power bill is probably outrageous. It looks to like they hooked him up with equipment they could make the most money from him. The only guy I could see that did him solid was the guy doing the rockwork. They better hope in the future that he doesn't figure this out and beat them down. And as for the haters there will always be people that are jealous for what others have. I believe the old saying (Don't hate the player, hate the game) sums it up. I am happy just to see another hobbyist in the game.

Solaris is history!!!

That figures. Another example of how companies try to stamp out what they can not make a dollar from. However, I am sure something else will come along that is energy friendly, costs less, and lasts much longer than most of what we see in the trade today. With the costs of electric and everything else on the rise, people with or without lots of money in this hobby should look for equipment that uses the lowest amount of energy possible.

They quit production because of a lawsuit brught against them, not because they were not making money. Calm down with your greenie anger!

LED's to reach 8'+ of depth??? I wouldn't put a low watt Tunze skimmer on that. It's performance that matters not cost. I'm sure he is not doing maintenance himself.

The Lance, You are correct about the law suit. They also had many problems with their Solaris LED lighting system. I had one for a month with nothing but trouble with it. No customer support from PFO, finally gave up and had them send a call tag & credited my AMEX account. This after many calls "to" them and only one returned call. At their request this unit was taken apart by me, 3 times, and preformed the task requested. Still no positive results. The problem seem to be in the main component , I asked them to charge my AMEX again and send another main component and them credit my AMEX when the defected component was back in their possession. I was told, " We don't do that!". I said " I can do this, I can put a stop on my AMEX card!" That got their attention and now wanted to talk with me. At this point I was done, when I am done, I am done! This by the way was the I series, makes one wonder why there were so many series so close together. We all have opinions, this is just mine. They wanted me to be a reseller for them, man oh man am I glad I said I will test them first. Sorry to go on so long but needed to so it could be understood. Stayed with LEDS but went with the www.aquaillumination.com/ never looked back. I am V-E-R-Y happy with the A. I. system.
Again my view but you can do a search here on Reef Central and see others with problems with PFO's LEDS. No anger here just My 2¢

+++ on the AI system. I like mine a lot. Would have liked to get two more modules for my 60" long tank but couldn't spring for another $2400 right now so filled the center with a 250W MH.
I tend to agree with the earlier poster about LEDs on such a deep tank-- not sure it would be enough light at the bottom for some corals.

Where is a picture of the finished tank?

I ran out of time looking at this thread...can somebody send a link or tell me what page I would find a picture of the "finished" tank?

Thanks.

LL

Forgive me if I am wrong but, I don't believe 1000w halides is producing much par at 8ft. If I had a tank that deep I would pretty much focus on the upper portion anyways. I would also like to see most of the tank lit up all day rather than one side in cycles. I bet what ever is at the top, directly under the halides will have a nice sun burn for a while. As for skimmer selection, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. About the tank itself, no one can say it is not unique. The man obviously wanted a tall tank, so I'm sure he's happy with it, really that's all that matters.

Marble tile might be over concrete floors(I hope)

I guess we all wish this was a public aquarium but it's a private house...I spend my time with pest control. Don't know how it would be done here. Guess I'll unsub from here. :(
