mrc 1 beckett skimmer

just wondering if anyone uses these types of skimmers and what would be the best way to run it. how high to run water and vice versa i hear of people pulling out almost a gallon of scum a day while mine barely does a two litter a week.

I run a Beckett skimmer. It's similar in design to an Aerofoamer and your MRC.
I don't understand the question. You can run a skimmer "wet" or "normal".
I do wet skimmate water changes, but run my skimmer "normal" 24/7.
"Normal" would be keeping the water line in the neck about an inch below the inside lip of the cup. Collect a dry foam. This is what I suggest you do.

the neck your saying is the small tube that connects to the cup.. so i should rais the water all the way up it untill about inch form the top of it .

if i adjust the water to were i think is correct when i add the air it just boils over like crazy

Adjust the skimmer so the water level with the air on is about 1" below the top of the neck. I run an MRC 2 skimmer with dual beckett and an extended chamber and get 1/2 to 1 gallon per week.
