Let it dry out. It should be okay. That Coralife pump you refer to is almost the same pump ad the PCX30. It is another Iwaki clone.

I am hoping it's a matter of drying out :D. I finally got the cover off where the plug wire goes into. It was stubborn to remove and I saw where there was a few droplets of water. So I put it on a heater vent over night and we will see what happens. I may even hit it with a hair dryer after that to be sure.

If worse comes to worse, at least I know there is the Iwaki clone I can go to or if I decide to wait a little bit for shipping, a Blueline or another PCX 30

well after i thought i had achieved wet skimmate, look what had happened!

After tweaking and tweaking i can not get it back into the wet skimming shape it WAS in. Im really not sure what I did in the first place, but whatever i did i did it right. Im begininning to think that my pump isnt strong enough for my dual beckett mr-2r monster of a skimmer. Do you think this is the problem?!? Im considering getting a Gen-X PCX-55 pump. Do you think that will be enough?!

Also how do you guys get your skimmers to have the perfect wet skim and keep your water line so low? In alot of skimmers ive seen the water line is about 4 inches above the mixing box, inored for my skimmer to actually work properly I have to set the water line and inch above the union for dry skimming and almost an inch below the top of the wet neck where the bubbles pop into the cup!!!!!! This cant be right is it?

Help me before I go out and by a new pump. I know everything is clean and working properly cuz i cleaned the skimmer up this afternoon. Becketts and all!

Thanks guys!!!

well it seems everything has gone back to normal. in that case would a pump upgrade be necessary?? the way im running it is ok right with the high water level and everything? the only thing i worry about is when the auto shut off turns off the skimmer and water flys out of the air valves because my water level is so high. thanks guys. if i have to i really dont want to buy another pump.

-Mike

P.S- the skimmer is perofrming fine and is really doing the job, im just wondering if its ok to do the job this way!

Right now, my thick bubbles start at the top of the first riser tube, right under the union.

I say right now because I am always playing with it.. Do yourself a favor and don't play with it before bed, or before work in the morning.

Good news!

Good news!

Good news is that drying the pump out over the heating vent worked! :D It didn't trip the GFCI. So it looks like I will save $100 plus and some down time. Whew!

Now to go back and learn how to dial it in............

Why yes, yes there is..

Girlfriend: Ready to go to the mall?

Me: Aww baby I forgot and I just adjusted the skimmer, it 's going to be a little while.

Girlfriend: well how long?

Me: Not sure, remember what happened the last time?

Girlfriend: I hate that damn skimmer!

Me: Yeah baby, me too.

**2 hours later**

Girlfriend: Ready?

Me: The skimmer is acting up again, I'm worried about leaving it. I can't afford to replace the celing tiles downstairs again, you better go by yourelf.

Girlfriend: I hate that damn skimmer.

Me: Me too hun, me too.

You have a point! I got accused by my fiance` of ogling at the skimmer more than I do her!

must be something sexy about watching brown sludge....

alright ill play with it a little. thanks guys! also, for wet skimming is it recommended to have alot of air or less air? im still tryin to tweak the air valves.

^^ I asked the same question in another thread. I'll bump it tonight, maybe we can get an answer..

In my head I'm thinking more air. This way here there is more "umph" to push the particles out.

We'll see.

Yes and no. More air can raise the bubbles flowing, But you dont want the bubbles too big.
Just get a good bubble level you want and raise the water level till its around the collection cup.
Wait a little and adjust again. With it set that high you can produce alot of skimmate fast if set too high

For the most efficient skimming, either wet or dry, smaller bubbles generally work better(more surface area). A good place to start is about 2 to 3 turns closed on the air valve. Whether that means more or less air I don't know. If I remeber correctly about 45cfm has been mentioned as a good rate. Again it takes quite a bit of "experimenting" or playing with it to get it where you want it. I find it easiest to adjust the gate valve where I want it and then to use only the air valve for controlling on a weekly basis.

Ha! Me thinks I got it. This is from watching and playing with it all day :D I was determined to figure out how to tune this thing.

NoSchwag, I got premium skimmer time with a day off and no one around. She wasn't around to resent the skimmer.

Anyway, I was after a dry skim and this is what I am getting. If I need to tweak a little more, let me know.

recently set up a used mrc skimmer in my sump and it is hauling butt! it took a day or so to figure out all the little knobs and doohickeys, but the skimmer is very impressive.

i skimmed thru the thread and no one mentions anything about trying to stop the microbubbles in their sump. am i the only the only person who's having an issue with the bubbles coming out of the gate valve?
