A Y will give you slightly better flow..not sure about 33%, but it will work better. True y's are not common place. You would still use the same pump, in my opinion. I have used non true Y's and T's...I didn't get any difference. The only Y fittings I have seen from my supplier is a straight piece of PVC with a 45 on it.

A Y pipe fitting. using a tee is like running water into a brick wall .A Y will give you so much better flow to each Beckett and more out put from the skimmer.

Yup and the same holds true for the 90. It's too bad they don't come with it stock, night and day I tell you.

Another thing I see people doing is using an up and over in 1" pipe.

These pumps are real good at pushing water and horrible at pulling water. I even spoke with the manufacture of the pcx pumps about how bad they were.

People should use bigger plumbing for the up and over and reduce it right before the pump.

Here is gregt disscussing it:

Bomber also makes mention on it a few times in various threads.

They call it a "hook".

After dropping the water level a little and opening both air valves wide open, the skimmer is working much better now. I cleaned it at 1pm today and this is what I have so far.

I think I would consider that kinda 'medium' skimmate. When I think 'wet' skimmate, I think the bubbles popping right at the top rim of the riser tube. 'Dry' would be a much darker foam with more sludge in it. Would you agree?

I agree :)

FYI
I started using my MR-2 for a wet skim water change. I set a really wet skimmate that will fill a 5gal pail in about 30mins. 5 gals of thsi green water seems to pull out more waste than 25gals of straight up tank water.

I was thinking on that the other day. Thats the way to get most out of your waterchange!!!

I have a question on waste collection chambers. I am using a 5 gal water jug (the kind that go on water coolers) to collect waste from my MR-3. How can I set it up so that if the skimmer goes nuts and fills the container I won't have a flood? There must be a way to do this. I have read references to a ping-pong ball or something similar, but I have yet to see any photos or a good explanation.

Thanks,

Mike

NoSchwag,

Thanks, that is an excellent (read cheap) solution. I wonder if I could do something similar on the water bottle (I like to be able to check instantly if the container needs emptying).

Andy did you send the E mail for that pump part? It would be good to be first with this.

You have an email. Thanks!
