I ordered my MR3 yesterday, and I can not wait for it to arrive. Anyhow, I also plan to order a CR2 from Andy in the near future, and had a plumbing question for you all. How does a reactor tap in to the system? Does it draw from and return to the sump, or does it tap off somewhere else?

I would like to know now as I am finalizing the plumbing for my new 120, and I would like to make provisions for the reactor now, instead of having to drain the system down later to hook it in.

Thanks for all the help, and this has been a very informative thread.

hey now cmhollis,

Congrats on the mr3! As you can see these folks here are amazing!

thanks for posting the pic nunez :D

Do you guys think a tee on the drain line would benefit my situation? would a tee reduce the number of micro bubbles draining back into my sump?

take care,
Jared

cmhollis,

did you said calcium reactor, MR3, and 120g? :D

ok lets see one of my favorite tanks, owner joefish

120g

here you can see an MR2 + extension = MR3, and also there you can see one of the many ways to feed a calcium reactor, also you can use a dosing pump, a maxi-jet, ect

the valve feeding the calc reactor is the top of the three ball valves.

:) here is the pic with the MR2 + extesion :D

good luck on the setup, and welcome to the MRC family :)

jaredt,

no a T is actually a way to feed in more air :D

to break siphons, also is not needed in your situation because the output is not submerge,

sam

Nunez,

Thanks for the quick reply. I see the line feeding the reactor, but where in the system does it tap off from? Also, does the effluent just drip back into the sump?

Thanks

Hey MRC guys on long do you think it will take to get a MR-2 these days. I emailed them but have not got a responce. How long did it take to get yours?

Covey,

I just ordered my MR3 yesterday evening. I received the confirmation e-mail today stating to expect a couple of weeks build time, and 7-10 days for UPS ground. I hope it doesn't actually take that long.

They look like they are worth it but it would be nice if they kept the more common models in stock.

Mine took five days from order to door step. It was the MRC sump that took three and a half weeks:)

And I think I finally got the thing working right. After being completely frustrated, I took it completely apart last night, cleaned, resealed and put back together. every thing seems stable now. I wonder if I was getting air in somewhere and causing fluctuations??? Dunno, but it's working.

hop-

boy is that nice to hear :D
glad you got it working properly. Lets hope I can say the same soon

nunez- :rolleye1: now u can maybe see why I am having such a hard time with this skimmer...heheee boy oh boy...:p

Ereefic,

So if I tee off my return, where does the effluent go, just drip into the sump?

Thanks

Yep. :) I drip mine into a cup that holds a pH probe which is hooked to a pH controller. It fills the cup and then overflows into the sump.

Ereefic,

That sounds like a great way to run the reactor. I think I will set mine up the same way because it sounds so simple yet effective.

Thanks,

Mike

Check your spam filter...I sent an email last night with a expected ship date....we are currently running 2-3 days on standard skimmers.

Andy,

That is great news. I must have mis-read the e-mail. I can't wait for it to arrive, it is about the last item I need to finish plumbing my system, fill it from the garden hose, and do a wet test.

Thanks Andy,

Mike

Yeah andy is great! I ordered on a tuesday amd got it friday.
Man now i may have to t off my return to my cr2.

Jared u are using flex tubing not flex PVC the glue will not hold well & u will get air pockets im 90% sure that is ur problem, silicone & it should work fine

this is flex PVC hooked up to my beckett (old picture)
it makes a secure bond with flex PVC so u dont get
leaks.
