Micro bubbles on skimmer discharge

I have my MR-3 dual beckett setup now for testing and am having significant micro bubbles released from the skimmer discharge into my sump. Have any of you had this issue and what did you do to solve it? Thanks!

Hey guys, I have an MR-3 that i have had for a few weeks. I have it hooked up with one of the new injectors as well as one of the old ones. They are being powered by a hammer head pump.

I have a Tree coming off the pump. The injectors are the lowest on the tree and are both controled by ball valves. There is then a by-pass to the sump and the remainder is what i use for the display return.

I have not had a lot of time to play with the skimmer to tune it in but i also don't really know how to accomplish this. I would like to proiduce a wet foam as opposed to a dry one. So far its been very dry. I have tried adjusting the water level up a bit but as the sides get dirty the less and less it puts out the top.

Any suggestions as to how to properly dial this thing in?

Also wondering what you guys think about sometime i have read about recently called wet neck skimming.

Thanks for the photo forgive my ignorance but what is floss? Also is the air intake quieter then before? I am looking for stable but quiet intake. I do have some micro bubbles discharging to the sub also. What is the Steveââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s U-mod? When the air intake is closed every 10 seconds a puff of air goes by the air injector. Is that normal? The air valve is screwed on tight with out tape per instructions.

Is it quieter then before? It looks very simple to do and compact. I want to get away from cotton balls I think they foul up and they are not consistent in their performance so I end up constantly adjusting the air valve. Are you having any issues with that? I am using very thin foam however it is considerably loud.

Can you post a picture of your sump set up?

I fixed mine with creative plumbing and baffle design.

It's funny how much I had to close the air gate valve after the mod..
 
Is it leaking out of the union? That's why I got mine really tight with a couple of nylon pipe wrenches and now don't mess with it... My hands just are not big enough to get a good crank on those unions:(
 
It's either the union or the joint, I have no idea :(

Next time I clean the cup, I'll tighten it good and update you.
 
Do you guys glue youre gate valve to the pipe coming out of the body ?? And all the downstream piping as well??? Also I want to put mine outside the sump but the white collar on the black box is leaking between the collar and the black box......How shoudl I fix that ??

Youre right.....will do, thanx Steve. I also want to add an extention onto my MR2.....what size should I do ? I'm thinking the 8" .... and then I'll make my beckett extention and the do the elbow thing inside the skimmer....I should use the 1 1/2 "sweep street 90 degree elbows for this ?? , and then add on a piece of 1 1/2" pipe to extend towards the top of the skimmer ? (how long should that be ? or should I just have the elbows 90 up and call it a day with that.
 
i got the 12 inch riser & love it.
the elbow goes on like this & the rest like this dont use the reducer thats on the picture (old picture) when i added a second beckett it was to close to the inside wall so as long as u slip it over the bulkhead u will be fine.
here are the upgrades that i have done.
they are 1.5 elbows
 
No schwag, I just put vasolean (I know i spelled it wrong another name is petroleum jelly) I pull the o rings out and re apply every time i pull apart to clean. I dunno if its junk getting in there or what but it seams to work to stop the leaking.
I do have to give it a little extra twist but not much of one.
 
vasoline will break down some o-rings. i have used it in the past but w/ silicone grease being like 1.00 at a local hardwars store....i'd use silicone grease. it is right by the teflon paste and stuff for plumbing fittings usually

If you would to keep your riser tube clean going to the cup,turn off the skimmer one two times a day for about 30 sec than turn it back on.This can be done using a cycle timer.

why/how would this keep the riser tube clean?
 
I usually use good ole spit on my O rings but Lunch's suggestion of silicone grease is a good one;) Silicone grease also comes in handy for keeping fragging tools from rusting etc.....so you can use it for other things as well.

^^ At first I thought it would overflow and push the particles off of the rim of the neck.

but...

I tried that and I think it went right back to wet skimming how it was.
