a dirty beckett would slow performance down a bit,

the rattling noise is the inner piece hitting side by side, just glue the inner piece to one of the side, just like on previous page demonstrated by steve, and you are good to go,

remember the beckett don't have any moving parts so no performance hit, and this is the beckett head, not MRC related, any skimmer that uses beckett heads could have this issue, have gotten some becketts heads over the internet and from other companies and they some do that, good luck,

sam

I glued it, it was pretty clean. The glue worked like a charm. Very quiet now, just hear the humm of pumps. Wish I could silence them a little more.

Ezhoops,,,

I am hoping my glueing experience goes well too.. I spoke to Andy this morning and he said the same thing. GLUE will do it..

I just wish I was more experienced in taking the beckett apart and putting it back together. Since I have only had this up and running 2 weeks now I havent had to take it apart yet.
-- Also I am assuming that by it rattling and being loose that the performance is being affected??

well now is as good time as any to learn how to take it apart.
down the road it will become part of ur cleaning routine ( due to tiny snails) well at least thats the only reasond i clean my becketts.
about once a month sometimes once every 2 months.

JJmatti, don't worry I've only had mine a couple of months and I was worried too, that thing is pretty tough. Besieds Andy stands behind his products. The beckett is no big deal, take it apart and glue it, no worries. It is so much quieter.

Well everthing went well ... I took the beckett out when I got home from work. dried it off and let it air dry for a hour... Glued it all up and replaced it.. a couple hours later and all is silent and rattle free now..
I plugged it back in and it went straight back to working its magic. I will check up on it tomrrow morning again.

By the way-- Here comes what could possibly be the dumbest question ever...
I have noticed since I installed this skimmer that my water levels in the sump are going down much faster then they used too....
I have been topping off with RO/DI water ..
But here is the question.. Do skimmers take out any salt?? should I be topping off with just straight RO/DI or throw in some SW sometimes too...
So far my salinity has been in check so I am keeping with the RO/DI... but I figure if my waste collector is half full every other day is this SW that is in there or just organics??

jjmatti,

depends, if you are running running wet like this

them when you throw out the skimmate, replace the same volume to the tank with salt water (same salinity as the tank).

if you are running very dry, then you wouldn't worry too much, but as always check levels once in a while to make sure everything is good,

also a skimmer will to some degree help evaporate more water too,

oh, this question is not dumb at all, imagine not replacing the wet skimmate with salt water and driving the salinity to the floor :(

have a good day,

sam

Ok since glueing I think I am now running dry foam.....
All I did was unplug pump, take out beckett, glue , replace , and plug back in..
I did not adjust anything, but now I am getting a dry foam.

Can someone tell me what is the exact function of the air valve?
and if thier is any good/bad reason of adjusting the water level higher in the 1st riser column?

I just hooked up my MR-2 with the Blueline 50 pump, MAN is that pump loud, the fan on the pump sounds like a grinder!!! A high pitched one at that. What would be the best and quietest pump to run on the MR-2 skimmer.....money no object?

KH971,

check to make sure the fan on the pump didn't get bent during shipping. I got the MR-2 with a Gen-X 55 pump and it was really loud when I first set it up. I called the pump company and they said it is normal for the plastic fan to get bent a little during shipping. Once I took the cover off and bent the blades back it was much, much quieter.

I would definetly go with a Sequence pump. After having my DART, I dont think I will ever want another pump again unless they are that quiet.

The Tarpon is good, but for an extra $10 go with the Wahoo.

Sounds like you got a bad pump to me. Whatever you get make sure it's pressure rated.

Would there be any problems using the Tarpon or Whaoo? The Mr-2 is a new dual beckett with the 6 inch riser added,

Never used a Sequence. If I was running a dual becket I would go with an Iwaki 70 rlt but that's just me.

I have my tank dead silent and I run two Gen-x 70 PCX ..one for return and one on closed loop. They are more quiet combined than the Blueline 50. I even removed the fan blade and ran teh pump and it is still loud. Should I remove the housing and check the windings? Or should I get a differnet pump? I do want quiet and the Sequence are quiet, I just didn't know about the Wahoo or Tarpon on the MR-2.
