jjmatti u cant remove the gray elbow he uses weldon to glue it on, u can get the grey fittings at lowes or HD, u dont have to have them straight back, u can put the top of the beckett on a angle so they face towards the corners, this way u can have more room to play with, u just have to get creative & make sure u cut all the ppipes so they fit nice & tight.
i came to the conclusion that i dint mind taking out all the nylon screws to clean the becketts, where my skimmer went i just dint have the room to put the unions on the side & i dint even think about turning them sideways till it was 2 late that would have worked for me.

Here u can see how close it is to the wall, if i would have turn them sideways it would have worked.

Anyone ruuning a MRC output submerged under the waterline, say like 4in? I skimmed (pun intended) the thread and am getting dizzy. I am hooking up a MR3 and drilling the sump, but my waterline will run 7in, about 3.5 above the gate valve. With power outage, another 3.5in but still below the beckett holes (which I know and probably will, extend anyway).

pangea - I run two MR2 that are in sump with the outputs roughly3-4 inches under water. This was a secondary plan for me. I was originally planning on running a MR3 externally plumbed, but due to sump and refugium leaks I could not run external connections. Long story on that issue, but I will be building new sumps and refuguim to bo back to the original plan. Mean time the two internally plumbed MR2s work fine. My water line in sump is around 15 inches so I had to raise the skimmers around 5 inches or so to get them to function (beckets out of water). However, no problems with the output. Just make sure the becket is above the water and the water level internal to the skimmer is correct. That is my only draw back, my internal water level adjustments are very limited, but the skimmers still work great.

MR-1 going nuts

MR-1 going nuts

I have a MR-1 with a Mak 4 pump which according to Andy is a very good match. My tank is 100 gal and the skimmer is in the closet next to it. I have read this thread over and over looking for tips and info, but I still have a few questions.
After I do a 15 gal water change or dose amino acids my skimmer goes nuts, it basicly pumps water out of the tank, so I have to shut it down for 24 hrs before it will resume normal skimmer.
Is there anyone else out there that is having this issue or can explain why, and is there a solution.

Thanks

Rich

PS I am using Tropic Marin salt

I have a newly running MR2 with a Mag 18. I'm having trouble adjusting it to skim. Either I get very dry form that never reaches the top and really dirties the first riser, or I get wet foam that fills up my WC.
Is there a secret to adjusting this skimmer? ALL advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

You need a pressure rated pump to make your beckett work right, like a IwakI MD55RLT pump .

I could cut the air down till it skims properly but then after 24 hours or so it will not skim at all because there is too little air.
Thanks.

Not really, but I could build a shelf above the sump for the pump.

Will a pressure rated pump make it run more efficiently and consistently? If so, I'll have to break down and get one.

What sizes are best -- a range?
