I am running Ozone thru the Port in my MR-2 that Andy drilled and tapped for that purpose.I love it , but I have seen some better ways to inject the Ozone in this thread "somewhere" .I have seen one that someone redid and all the air going into the beckkett goes thru a valve so you can set a constant amount of air , including the air from the Ozone generator.

vapor1, do you have a carbon filter at the water outlet of your MR2? How about the WC -- carbon?
I'm new to ozone and not sure if I'm going to connect it or not, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

What about a Little Giant 3-MDQX-SC for the MR-1. Its rated at 6.10 PSI. 1100 gph at 1ft. I can get one of these fairly cheap. How do you think it would compare to a Genx - 30?

I used the PCX-30 on my MR-1 a while back and loved it. I run a PCX-55 on my MR-2 now. I never liked the Little Giants because you have to oil them. I don't know if that applies to all LG pumps, but the one I had required it.

I'm not running any carbon on my tank, but I have my ozone set very low.Its set at 20 mg/hr and I'm not using an air dryer, so I figure I mite be getting around 5-8 mg / hr.This is in a 180 gallon tank and I have a 70 gallon sump with a slow flow thru the sump so the ozone has a chance to go out of the water before it ever goes to my tank. The majority of the people use carbon on the waste collector air output, and drop a bag of carbon in their sump near where the output of their skimmer is.

This may be a dumb question but I have always ran my skimmers internal to the sump. I have been running 2 MR-2 skimmers mounted in the sump, but will be changing here shortly back to the original plan of running a MR-3 external from the sump and maybe keep 1 of the MR-2s running in the sump. My question is where is the best location for the skimmer return, low in the sump or high in the sump?

New Pump

New Pump

Iwaki has just came out with a new pump MD55RL-24 .It is the same as the MD55RLT pump but with a 24 volt DC motor,40% less power to run it will help keep the ele bill down and the pump will have less noise, and less heat.

Ozone through MR-2 instead of Reactor

Ozone through MR-2 instead of Reactor

Vapor1 I saw this metering valve in this thread and saved the manufacturer. Not sure if this is what you're looking for or if it is or is not ozone safe but here is the link to it.

Question for all: I am considering buying an Enaly OZX-300U Ozone Generator and using my MRC MR2 Skimmer as the reactor through an ozone port. I'm new to ozone and want to know if this is as good as using a separate reactor. I plan to use an ORP controller and I have a skimmate containment vessel that will shut down the air supply if full. I looked at the MTC Ozone reactor recommended by Randy Holmes Farley but they want $350. Why do I need this if the skimmer is set up as the reactor? I am pumping around 1000 gph through the skimmer with a BlueLine 55 pump. Are there negatives to doing it this way?
Steve68 You out there? :)

Mark NJ,

-first, enaly nice cheap unit
-second, you are pump much less than 1000gph through skimmer
-third, MTC ozone reactor is not the only choice, too much IMO

negatives?

-ozone output (water based) how is it going to be treated with carbon?
-ozone output (air based) how is it going to be treated with carbon?
-skimmer beating with ozone...
-you should run the generator with a moisture filter, to extend its life and so it doesn't created any bad chemicals...
-as has been shown too much ozone (enaly case, no control, full blast only) will hinder the performance of a skimmer, while low levels of ozone can increase performance of a skimmer...

cheap solution
-built cheap pvc reaction chamer (design similar as a skimmer) but without any collection cup, pump will draw ozone into reaction chamber.
-the top of reaction chamber reduce and a bag of carbon is place to eliminate any ozone in the output(air based)
-drain of reaction chamber pass through carbon to eliminate any ozone in the output(water based),

good luck,

sam

Thanks Sam. I will reconsider the Enaly. I want to be able to control the rate of ozone for sure. I guess the controller would torn and off the ozone but it will still be running full out during the on time. I may investigate a DIY reactor too. Any good threads you know of for that?

Just got my MR-7 going, here are some shots of the plumbing and some skimate:

wow, nice skimmer man. did you custom order the grey PVC or re-do your becketts with it? mine are all white.
i just got my MR2 and i cant wait to get it running but i have a problem. i bought it used and the FedEx truck-packing gorillas cracked a piece of the main body flange off. do you guys know what type of wed-on type product i should use to repair this? i want to get this thing running ASAP!
thanks for the help.

exoticaquatix,

check for insurance,

about repair, if I recall correctly all weld-on are the same, they difference it the thickness if the solution, weld on 16 for example is thick,

post a picture so we can see, in some cases you can use just the weld on, but in others is good to a piece of acrylic to hold things in place,

sam

i got the skimmer fixed already. Chuck at Clear and Present plastics in Baltimore used MC bond and had it fixed in 5min. look him up if your in the area and need acrylic work/materials. he's a great guy to deal with.

I was wondering how most of you guys have your MR2's hooked up. i cant get my sump out of the stand to drill it so im plumbing it over the top. i cant find a barb fitting for the output on the pump and was wondering where you guys found a 1 inch thread to 3/4 barb. 2 home depots so far and no luck.

Well, I accomplished the prerequisite for the club and 'skimmed' all 159 pages of this thread. I recently aquired a used MR2 with dual beckett's, and wc-2 collection cup.

After getting it all plumbed, (sitting in sump), and turned on, I have a couple issues. First, I wonder if the pump is too large, it's a Gen X GX8500 submersible pump. Setting the water level (with the air off), is too high, even with the gate valve all the way open. I tried putting a ball valve on the pump supply line, but when I closed that a little to get the right water level, there was no air at the beckett's. Heck, I even took the needle valves out, and not much of anything. I tore the whole installation apart thinking something was wrong, only to find out if I open the supply line ball valve all the way, then I have air, but then i'm back to the high water level. Any ideas? Is the pump too large? It seems to be rated @ 2249gph and 16.4 max head.

My second question is for those of you that have also installed their skimmers in sump. What are you doing to cut down on the return bubbles. Even with the sump baffles, I am getting crazy bubbles back to the display. I tried the u-tube mod, but can not fit 1 1/2" pipe over the bulkhead in the box, as per steve68's website. I can go from the 1" bulkhead to 1 1/4", however, I wasn't sure how this would effect the skimmers performance. How critical is it to use 1 1/2" fittings in the box, or can I get away with the 1 1/4"? Any other ideas for getting the bubbles out of the sump when running these skimmers in sump?

Thanks for the help

woodwrangler-

i've been running my output into a filter sock, it's not ideal but it does get rid of the bubbles. until you (and i) come up with a more permanent solution, if you have socks and a bracket hanging around, it's a fast fix.

:bum: YES SIR !!

yupiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii wupu pu pu !!!

I just got my new MRC 4 RECIRCULATED ....awesome !!!
i made the request to andy to get me the ozone port ...

but i really dont know how to use them or what to do ??
do i have to purshacse something else and plug it onto the skimmer??

HELP:confused:
