I clean the neck, cup and waste collector about every three days. I do a good cleaning without breaking the unit down once a week. I do the beckett every two weeks and a full and total cleaning about every six months. But I'm not a veteran yet. It's only been about a year

Is there any tricks to cleaning the beckett? I had to take it apart to glue it and if I remember correctly there wasnt much to it.
Do I have to unscrew the becett from the base or just clean the portion that comes out with the thumbwheels.

John your skimmer looks good , how many oceanrunner pumps do you have on the skimmer as i see two air meters on the skimmer?

Just the beckett. So the thumbscrews are all that's needed to get it out

I soak it in hot water then scrub it w/ a brush making sure that there is nothing built up around the holes of the black housing.

The skimmer only has one OR 3700 on it right now, but I have another space reserved on the body for whatever pump I see fit, however the skimmer is doing great with just one pump right now since I've only got about 70 gallons of reef to skim. Hehe

Actually, it's a little bit overkill. It's 32" tall and has an 8" body.

JJmatti, you didn't glue the beckett together right?!?!? Do you mean you glued like PVC pipe to increase the height of the beckett head?

I think he glued the whatchamagizmo, bomb looking thing inside the beckett so it stopped rattling. I had to do the same thing. If done correctly, you can still get it apart. If done incorrectly, you have a fancy looking pipe after a few months

Nope I glued the inner piece of the beckett. (the part that looks like a spear) to one side of the beckett housing. This was done to stop rattling that was making extreme noise. I followed the picture process that was laid out here on this thread.

I have seen the taller beckett thing but am not sure what that does or how to do it.

looks like for my new 240 gallon FOWLR I will be leaving the euroreef club for this new MRC club
I am looking at a MR3 with dual becketts. It will be plumbed outside my sump. I am looking for one ultra quiet pump that could be t'ed off to handle my tanks return (2 standard oceanic overflows) and the MR3's dual becketts. Any suggestions? Would a dart be a good choice?

MR-4 in sump? HELP!!!

MR-4 in sump? HELP!!!

I have to plum my MR-4 under the tank or in the sump, I picked up my skimmer used and never thought at the time that this type of skimmer is better plumbed outside and above the sump. my stand is 37 inches high, 90x33x37 (tank476g) anyone have any advice on how I could go about building my sump and refugium and fit in the MR-4??? I also need to leave some room for all the other equipment that needs to be crammed under my tank. Oh ya I was hopping to make a large refugium. Thanks Bill

Titansfan have a pump to used for the becketts only For a return used a Eheim 1260 pump.

Could I use a Reeflo Tarpon 1440 GPH on my MRC-2R dual beckett skimmer? Or would that be too much?

That pump should work fine.

Sent you a PM. I'd recommend the Blueline 70HD. This pump is very quiet, energy efficient and works very well. A dart is not a good choice IME because of the backpressure on the pump, a pressure rated pump works much better.

Bryan89 that is a pressure rated pump, and I just put in a Marlin by Sequence and it spanks any other pump in heat transfer and in noise levels. Sequence rocks!!!! I use a Blueline 55 now. I had to replace the bearing in it, I have been around motors all my life and i like the Baldors.

The Dart I refered to in the second half of my post is not a pressure rated pump.

A Blueline 70 is pressure rated.

I second the sequence pumps. I use a wahoo (1550gph) and its dead silent and minimum to no heat transfer. Downside is its a HUGE pump.

As of right now its still down. I am testing out the LifeReef. I am getting about the same results! Basically, there isnt much in my tank to skim out. So I guess thats a good thing.

I just purchased a 240g and am setting that up this month, I am thinking about running both skimmers for a month or two and go from there.

When I talked to the guys at MRC they told me that they had people using Darts on their MR4's with good sucess. So I would assume that you would be fine. Although im sure you would be much better off with a pressure rated pump.
