Does Anyone feed - Boyd's Vita Diet ?? I have been watching my foam levels breakdown seemingly randomly but after some watching I think that the Boyds food which contains Vita-Chem (I think it is a Selcon alternative) which breaks down the foam.
Has anyone seen the same thing or am I going crazy trying to pinpoint my foam problems.....

So basically there is no reason why my skimmer stops performing after 12 hours? I cleaned it out when I got home at 3pm, its 10pm here and I am already seeing a decrease in performance.

Its not food....

Is there a way you can run the air though some carbon before it goes to the beckett.

Hmmm.... No clue, is there? *lol*

Wouldnt that restrict the air flow into the beckett though? Kinda like the cotton ball?

look back a couple of pages to the picture of how mine is setup, I used to have it hooked up to some carbon.. Although now that I vented it out side it is alot more consitstant. I also put some mesh on the hose outside to not suck any bugs.

Puts some in a jar and use the same kind of carbon you would used in your tank . Put the air line in the bottom of the jar cover the top and leave a 3/4 in opening to let the air in.Let it run for a day or so to see if this will help.

Ok, so let me recap to make sure I got this right.

Cut two holes in the top lid. Put some carbon in the jar. Then insert a hose into the jar through the top and push it all the way to the bottom?

One problem, how do I get a hose hooked up to my beckett housing? I dont think I can hook up a hose to it the way it is right now. So how would I go about that?

Can I join the club? I just recieved my MRC skimmer for my nano tank.

It's a MR7-R to be driven by a Sequence 4300 pump, a mag 12 will supply the skimmer. This is actually going on a 600 gallon system (450 gal tank). MRC did a fine job, everything looks real good. I'm looking forward to getting this system up and running, although probably a few months away.

FMC flow rate

FMC flow rate

Any one using the MRC FMC 620? If so how much flow do you run through it, what type of media and any problems?

I currently have been running a mag 2 to my FMC 620, flow doesn't seem bad since it only has to pump about 1-2ft, but after about a week or so the media will no longer fluidize. i have ran several different carbons and phosphate media and always have the same problem. I hate to have to take it apart to clean it since it is a pain to do that and I usually end up wasting the media.

Anyone have any experiance with these?

Skimmer Upgrade

Skimmer Upgrade

Hi all!

I've got a MR-2, single injector unit, and I'm looking to upgrade to a dual-injector skimmer, and a riser (Yeah, it's working awesome, but I think a second injector would be awesome-er).

I'm looking at the Sequence Whoo or Tarpon pumps, I've presently got a 6-month old Blue-Line 55 (Which I don't think will be enough ummmpph), and I'm drawn to the near-silent, really reliable Baldor motors. Anyone tested these pumps?

Next is the riser; 8" sufficient, or would a 12" really floor me with the difference? Just curious if it's worth the additional $30.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated....

-Andy/Oldimpala

The 8 in riser 6 in dia will be sufficient with just one beckett dual not needed.

I've got the 12" riser on my MR2, single injector. It made a huge difference. I also use the Marlin pump (split between the MR2 and return) and I can highly recommend these pumps. I may add another injector to my MR2 and get another Sequence pump for return, and let the Marlin just drive the MR2.

My own skimmer has a 8 in dia 14 in high riser with a 12 in dia collection cup and one beckett the pump is a Iwaki MD55RLT and it takes care of a 220 gal reef tank with many fish.

I have the Wahoo pump and it works great. Although I am starting to get a bit of noise from it. Not sure what up with that.

The con's, HUGE pump. You need a alot of space for this thing. And its an energy hog.

RGibson - I usually only run the FMC about 1/3 of the way full. I have ran it with a little more / a little less media always have the same problem. The only variance I have noticed is that some media will last longer before it clumps. Just wondering if I need more flow than a mag-2 on it.
