Basically, your water going in goes to the bottom of the unit and flow up through the media and out the output. Just like a phosban reactor works.

I'll let him know about this thread and see if he can't post more about his for you.

Yea I would like to know how he is controlling the output.
and is he using a dedicated pump to push water in or?

Thanks! I like MRC quality and would like to stay with there products. So I will be interested in how he uses it.

I am the person klasiksb referred to above with the MRC fluid reactor for a sulphur reactor. All I did to make it work is to put sulphur media from AquaticEco systems into it. I provide flow to it from a line off my main return that is then reduced to the needle valve that is on the MRC website. The setup is not ideal as the design does not fully remove all Nitrogen byproducts from the top of the fluid chamber.

You do not want to recirculate in a sulphur reactor because denitrification must be completely devoid of oxygen in an anaerobic area. If you recirculate, you will change the anaerobic zones in your fluid chamber. The flow rates are so slow and the reactor so efficient that you really do not want or need to recirculate through the reactor.

Read the new book from Delbeek and Sprung (I think around page 265) that covers these reactors.

what is the reason for the design not fully removing the byproducts?

Mar

Because the outlet of the chamber sticks down below the top of the container. It is slight and can be removed by agitating the chamber once a week. All of the nitrates are converted to nitrogen, but some of the nitrogen does remain in the top of the chamber. It is not really a significant amount.

I think I have pinpointed my problem, The pump (Gen-X PCX55) doesnt seem to be putting out a consistent flow of water.
I have been watching and listening to the pump and I can hear it and see the pvc hose "flex or move a little" it is almost like the pump is pumping ay full strength and then for a split second stops then starts full flow again. (It almost like it is sneezing)
I am horrible at explaining this but if anyone had experienced this let me know how they fixed it?
I do have a lot of bubbles going into the skimmer pump. I am not sure if that would cause it??

Here is a pic.
The Overflows are going into the filter sock but the skimmer output is the flex PVC all the way to the right.
The intake for the skimmer is drilled on the bottom directly below the skimmer output.

if there is to much bubbles going in the pump it tens to cavitate
so i think u are right, if u have another filter sock test it & see
what happends, do u have the U tube mod? the pipe is to far
out of the water put a T on it & stick it in the water.

what would be a good MRC calcium reactor for a 68 gallon display, 30 gallon sump, stocked with a lot of SPS?

i have mine so it's about 1 inch above the top of the box.

Kinetic a Cr-1 would be more then enough for ur tank but if u need
room u can go with the Cr-3

Steve68,

Dont have a U-Tube mod. I thought that was only needed if you are getting exsessive microbubbles into your display. (I am not really positive what it does though)
I put a sock over the water exit pipe and things have seemed better. No more cavitating and reducing of pump pressure.
