MRC MR-2 & System Size

Is an MRC MR-2 an appropriate sized skimmer for a 200g display and 100g stock tank system? I would approximate the total water volume to be ~200g after rock displacement, etc. I plan to keep mostly SPS, but it will be a mixed reef. Fish stocking will probably be fairy/flasher wrasses, anthias, and gobies...and maybe a tang.

Would adding the optional 2nd Beckett 1408 injector or extension tube make a difference in your estimation?

You would be fine with that skimmer. I'm running an MR3 w/ a 12" extension for a 450-500 gallon tank and it rocks!

The difference between the skimmers is really apples to oranges. The MRC line of skimmers require a pressure rated pump and cost a little more to operate than an ASM. In reality though, I feel the MRC is a superior skimmer. It's also is expandable. if you decide to upgrade to a 500 gallon tank, all you need to do is slam on another beckett and maybe a riser extension to upgrade. They are a snap to clean, but do take some time to get used to adjusting to get to work right.

I think you would be much happier in the long run with the MRC! Especially if you are like me and always wanting to go bigger!

Oh and the second beckett would not necessary right now, but might be something you think about if you upgrade or really start stocking heavily

I have an MRC-2 on my 120 and it's awesome. I would get an MRC-3 for your size tank though.

OK...so I'm hearing a mixed vote so far.

The G5 has two 90w pumps. What is the watt rating of the pcx-55?

The MR2 can easly be upgraded to a MR3 or better later on if you decide you need more skimming power.I would go for it.As a former ASM owner.i like the mrc better.
