once you mix it the impurities will settle to the bottom of whatever you have it in, my self i use a one gallon milk jug as a DIY dripper, i believe the DrBDC sent it to me from a thread here on RC and it works awesome, but you can use it in your top off water as well. but i have noticed if you use too much in lets say a 5gal auto top off bucket a thick skim will settle on the top like paste so you have to be careful on how much you use. on my 75rr tank i use the gallon milk jug and i have it set to drip over a a day and a half. so you have to use trial and error to see what works for you that is why i started this thread. i can give as much help as i can offer to you.good luck.
