MTC skimmer club!

Just took care of my waste collector, so there will be no over flows onto the floor. But really didn't expect it to happen. I'm using the Vertex Vessel ( dosing container ) it holds 1.3 gallons. Just built a stand in put it into the sump close to the the skimmer. One less worry...

Looks good and good idea.

I have just a single 584 running now and it is getting decent air draw and less flow (using watts used) then the dual 484x injectors which it should since the flow was split between two.

For comparisons
Waveline DC 12000 @ Level 11 w/ 584 mazzei
Air draw: ~20-22scfh
Max head height: 22.96'
Watts used: 143wattts (w/ adapter)
Skimmate produced: ??? Will find out

Waveline DC 12000 @ Level 11 w/ dual 484x mazzei
Air draw: ~28-30scfh
Max head height: 22.96'
Watts used: 145wattts (w/ adapter)
Skimmate produced: ~3cups wet/day

Mag18 with MVX stock 684 mazzei venturi
Air draw: ~12 scfh
Max head height:16.85'
Watts used: 62-63watts
Skimmate produced: ~3 cups dry/day high side

Mag18 with 784 mazzei
Air draw: ~14scf
Max head height: 16.85'
Watts used: 65-66watts
Skimmate produced: ~3 cups dryish/day low side

Waveline DC 12000 @ Level 11 w/ 684 mazzei
Air draw: ~24scfh
Max head height: 22.96'
Watts used: 147wattts (w/ adapter)
Skimmate produced: ~5.5 cups dry/day

Waveline DC 12000 @ Level 11 w/ 784 mazzei
Air draw: ~26scfh
Max head height: 22.96'
Watts used: 150wattts (w/ adapter)
Skimmate produced: ~6 cups dry/day

The single 584 is performing much more like normal. Nice thick foam. By day 3 this should be full coated

How does a skimmer slow down the flow rate of the feed pump?

I have a MTC MVX 36 with a Waveline 12000 pump operating at the highest level. I did a check of the flow back to the tank from the skimmer and the got about 1 gallon in 20 seconds. At 3 gallons a minute that is only about 180 per hour, significantly slower than the pumps rating.

I think we need Jason to answer this question... I'm sure he will chime in soon

Pipe size, every fitting,(90s, unions, ball valve, T, etc), the injector itself, hight up it has to go, the water level in the skimmers body, the water level running in the sump, etc ALL puts head pressure on the pump. Its a tremendous amount. Especially the venturi injector. Its about 3/8-5/8" or so which is a very restrictive opening to go from 1 1/4" output on the pump to go through.

Why having a pressure rated pump is recommended and if internal a pump with as high a rated head height as possible. Flow rate alone won't do it.

I figured it was obviously back pressure but was surprised that that amount of back pressure as created to so significantly reduce the flow.

Any idea if the beckett is in lower position can help on the pump back pressure also? Any impact on air suction on other issues if i place it lower?

AFAIK you wouldn't want to lower that beckett. I don't know much about them but every beckett skimmer I've seen they are above any kind of water line which I assume is for a good reason as they create a vacuum in that chamber.

Let's see if he know something about it. Anyway I think I can run a test when new pump arrive.
