MTRC February Meeting Minutes

As one that is just starting to get more active in the club I will say that you guys have confused me to no end.

I had an emergency that kept me from making this meeting. Everything I had read said the purpose of the meeting was to NOMINATE people for the BOD positions and that VOTING would be carried out over the following week. Though it felt like more than one person was nominated for at least one of the positions, settling on the current BOD by "default" is fine.

With that said, Bill has recently (prior to becoming president) alluded in multiple threads that decisions will not be made without a vote. Since it was not expected that the new BOD would be in place I did not expect that anything would be voted on at the meeting.

I'm fine with whatever direction you guys go. Must be present to vote, only vote if BOD is split, only vote if > $XXX, etc.

I'm just pointing out that I can see where all the confusion is coming from...

Brett

You must be present to Vote may be the Next thing to bring to the floor to Actually make it offical. You want to vote come to the meetings. Simple
Bill:wave:

I coach a girls fastpitch travel team and not able to come to most of the meetings. I think if you have a good BOD like it sounds like we do, why not let them make most of the changes with out all the voting(they were elected to make it better). I wasn't able to go to the swap or even renew(but I will), so I may need to stay out of this... for now

oh, i forgot my point.
If I really want my vote to count, I should make time to go vote at the meeting!

Just a point of clarification. the new BOD should become familiar with the By-laws and constitution. The split vote of the board is determined by the president. In a tie, the president gets a 1.5 count to the vote.

Now I am ok with that changing, but I just wanted to point this out as it can be a point of contention in the future.

the by-laws and constitution cna be changed to do whatever we want, but change it and THEN act on it. :-) Good luck and cheers!

I don't think the OLD BOD was familiar with the by laws. Reading them, I don't remember any of that happening. ;)

As faras the the New Board is concerned the Bylaw issue is a non issue as far as I'm concerned. This is a FISH Club not Microsoft. And if they must become another Issue to waste time on we will fix it Fast.
Thanks for your Concern though.

That gave me a good chuckle. Less politics more fish makes for a happier reef tank.

Wow..it seems to be more of the same then. They by laws exist so there is common understanding of how things work.

To paraphrase you Bill, See ya!

with about 50ish active members in our club (as stated by someone, i think justin said we have around 50) and mabe only around 10 or so people that would attend any given meeting durring the year....(hopefully more though :D ) this will no doubt bring a few problems when the majority of 10 people which could be as little as a 6-4 vote would put in place certian decision that will impact 50ish members.....and the best and often given answer is to attend the meetings if you want to have a vote....im sorry, we all live in the real world here which includes jobs...schooling....sickness...and many other prior commmitments that would keep many of us from even getting to go to a good few of these meetings......which as luck might have it whenever there would be some important vote going on there might only be 4 people there and we would have a majority rulling of 3 people that would then be implimenting something for the 50ish........not trying to start anything, just my 2 cents :D

As you say!

Andy, I will do what I think is Good for the Club, You are the only one who starts with the Bylaws argument since you have joined the Club and try to make it an Issue. May be a valid point but they were never followed in the past (Even when You) Had the ability to do so! So why is it the first thing you have to say about anything every time someone try's to get things done.
I personally think there are more important things to worry about and get going on than Arguing about the Bylaws.
And your right It does seem to be more of the same, As you brought this same stuff up last year and it went nowhere.
We as a club worked things out by Majority rule and If you had a problem with that you could have found a way to be at the meeting and Bring your opinion up as every one else did.
I will not let this turn into another wasted year of Bickering about This or that I will do what i think is best for the members and take full responsibility for any changes i make, But i will not let little gripes by a few ruin the progress we have already made.
1 member one Vote or I can do things like all the past boards and just do things behind closed doors as in the past with no one even being told what was going on. I asked for the whole time I have been a member for some of the things we did in one meeting and all some can see is something they don't like!
If your See Ya comment is that you are leaving the Club I will send you a full refund of your Dues If you have Paid them this year, Just let me know.

Hear ye! Hear ye!
Comes now before the middle Tennessee reef club and her members, the honorable vice president mr mel starcher presenting his motion to close this thread and retire our scrambled minds to matters of much greater importance... The point has been drilled into all our heads... IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO PARTICIPATE IN AS MANY MEETINGS AS POSSIBLE IN FAVOR OF VOICING ANY CONCERNS, QUESTIONS, IDEAS, AND THOUGHTS ABOUT ANY CLUB MATTERS. is there a second to the motion?
